Having problems with message search?
Most of us labor under the false idea that we remove things from ourselves to recover from alcoholism. But in the spiritual economy it works as subtraction by addition. To illustrate:
A class that is 1/2 full of vegetable oil has water introduced into it. By contiuuing to fill the glass we force out the oil by displacing it. We haven't removed the oil so much as we have introduced the water. One of the basic truths bout our existence is that we can only think of one thing at a time. In our thought lives much of the same thing happens as did with the oil experiment. While we will often say to ourselves that "we will not think negative thoughts" we will just as often only think of negative thoughts. What we need to do is direct our thinking to how we may help others, how we can introduce positive thoughts into our minds. The bottom line is this: we all work in the entertainment business - and we can choose the thoughts to entertain in our minds. It is really up to us, ourselves, to determine if we will marinate in negativity.
This is true of all of those things which will derail our sobriety: defects of character (or shortcomings, wrongs or things we find objectionable), living in fear, thinking of drinking, selfishness and self-centeredness, etc. We don't really remove them - we adopt a manner of living which does not include these things.
