I was hoping someone would step up and complain about the lack of sharing on this board. Certainly, as group founder, I am at fault for not keeping the discussion going here. That being said I figured I'd try to get somethiing going here.
One of the things that drives me nuts about meetings is how often I hear that some of us have the idea in their head that we could pick up a drink at anytime - if the circumstances were right. That our disease is 'doing pushups in the parking lot'. How does that make sense if we have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body?
I counter such utter nonsense with the fact that, although I am just as powerless over alcohol as I was 27+ years ago I am unafraid of stepping on a banana peel, falling into a gin mill and getting drunk. In fact all the claims of "I chose not to drink today" is based in what? That we somehow gain the power of choice in drink? (Look in the book and tell me where we get the power of choice in drink - you can't).
Our sobriety is contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition - which, by the way, could mean that we attend meetings daily but is by no means the only way of maintaining our spiritual condition. Besides - what the hell do you do if there are no meetings to get to? Best develop some other spiritual practices...prayer and meditation perhaps?
So pick something - theres plenty to latch on to for discussion.
