Jims,
Sometimes when people say that they are"working on their character defects" it seems as if they are excusing their on-going behavior. It sometimes seems as if they have given themselves license to be selfish, inconsiderate and fearful. Have you seen this over and over in the same person at a meeeting? I have. It looks painful.

Jims,Don't I have to be a willing participant in the removal process by taking better actions and practicing better thinking too ...I mean with the help of God and AA? I ask God every day to remove my defects of character...as same as I ask Him to keep me sober for the day. But I know that my actions and thoughts have to be constantly re-directed toward that goal in order to work with God and AA. Right or wrong? I am sincerely listening and want to learn more.Truthfully, Tammy

How about because God removes our defects because lack of power is our delimma and we can't fix them ourselves.
