gadzooks - hate to say this but last week we sat through a drugalog at our women's AA meeting - and because I was lax in my primary purpose responsibilities I didn't jump in and stop it - me and about a dozen other regulars in the group.

Won't happen again.  Had to type up a primary purpose statement of confining our discussion to our recovery from our alcoholism, and have to actually state that while drugs were a part of some of our stories, we need to stay with our primary focus.

What is AA coming to?   And not if we can help it.

Jim, you were right on point.  It's going on all over AA and I personally don't like it.  Neither do a lot of folks.  There are a bunch of us here who are deliberately working to stop it.

One step at a time.  Being adamant that this IS AA, nothing else.

Gets uncomfortable sometimes, espcially haviing to cope with those coming out of treatment centers.  They simply do not want to believe that the steps are the answer to ALL their problems.  Got one sponsee right now who has simply created chaos in her life since graduating from the treatment center due to her failure to even begin the work.  I'm just about at the point of finding someone else to work with due to all the nonsense and unwillingness to do the work.  Her first line of defense about not starting the work is "Well, I did go to a meeting."  I wish she'd use the time to do the work.   Sigh!

AA Hugs,
Linda

Now, Linda:

How is the newcomer supposed to know that he can have a bad day and
stay sober if we don't dump our feelings in a meeting and then
say "but I didn't choose to drink over it?"

I don't think I've said "gadzooks" since I last said "egads." You ladies may want to consider hiring a man to keep your meetings flowing properly. :) Our group...

I knew a guy that was the graduate of a treatment centre. He had understood his powerlessness and that he needed help he could no longer do it on his own....
