Hi! My son, Devon now almost 7 years old, has been involved in swim therapy for the last two years, (during the summer months). His therapist says with his muscle and strength, he has potential to be a great swimmer, and VERY fast! He has NO body fat, so he does sink....This year has been great for him. He is swimming all on his own, even under water. Our family spends a lot of time at the river during the summer, swimming and snorkeling. Devon wanted so badly to do it to, so I think motivation helped aid in his learning. It is a great work out for the kids as well, one uses a lot of muscles to swim....another great thing for my son. He is getting a little "stiff" in his legs and ankles, so this helps much.
If I can answer any questions, please ask! If your son is in therapy currently, I would ask them first. It is a physical therapist who works in the pool with Devon....
