Hi Jenny. This subject is still tough in our house. Devon is 6 now and for the most part he uses the toilet (or a bush, we live rurally <ggg>). We tried from about 3 yrs on. Finally when he was about 4 1/2 almost 5, he was interested. If you have an older son it could be helpful, my older son and Devon have "contests" to see who pee's further. Devon will still not use a public restroom, he can hold it FOREVER! He will not go at school etc. The rewards did help to an extent, we used tootsie rolls. I just want to tell you to NOT stress over it and do not force him, it could back fire! Make it fun. Night time is still an issue, he wears a pull up still, but still soaks the bed, err at least two loads of laundry EVERY day, we use bed pads too, but he moves around so much...he does still have accidents weekly. When he gets home from school we put a pull up on him. I know some parents think it could confuse a kid, but I was getting frustrated in all the clean up that I
was doing, let alone all the underwear we were going through! Lots easier for me to throw away instead of clean up and bleach out. Some kids like noise too, using a metal coffee can. Some kids l;like to have a target, put Cheerios in there so he can aim, find what he likes and use it to your advantage. Good luck, and if you find a miracle, please let me know!

Hi Jenny,
I know what you mean. I started training Abby at the age of three. We started with a potty chair, she hated it! It was way to small and she was scared of it. So... I bought a seat that snapped onto the toilet and bought an elmo stepping stool. This made her feel like a big girl and she would start by sitting on the toilet for a treat, we used M&M's. She would get one for sitting on the toilet then when she would pee she would get five. I didn't put her in the pull-up's because it confused her, so chucked those and used underwear. Of course she had accidents but it took about 2 months of work to get her completely trained. I tried not to be mad when she would have an accident because I have heard of children holding it and having problems with their kidneys and constipation. It is difficult sometimes when you have cleaned up several accidents already. We got a carpet cleaner to have on hand, highly suggest that if you have carpet. This is what worked for us. I hope it helps. Good luck!

Just wondering if anyone had some advice on toilet training.
How did you know when your kids were ready. I bought Earl a potty chair
and he's terrified of it, any advice would be greatly appreciated, as
always! Talk to you all soon.
Love Jenny
