Dear Greta:
In answer to your questions, Kendall has, over the years, grown to be
quite a self sufficient individual. He does still live at home, but
has an area of the house that is totally his own where he takes care
of himself. He gets himself up and ready by 4:30 AM when he has to
go to work. He has a wonderful capability to be able to study the
multiple bus routes for the region and, therefore, with his bike and
the bus, he can get himself anywhere! He was tested with an IQ of 70
while in Middle School… but all of his teachers and therapists
indicated that he was able to function so much higher and does!
We do encourage him to be as social as he can with a group of
friends, but discourage him from single dating.
Kendall did not have an attention disorder. His disabilities were
physical and verbal mostly. We were told he would never walk
unaided…… uh, rides a bike all over! He was a very compliant patient
and student.
Kendall is 6'5", 225 pounds. He has worn a shoe as large as a size
17 (US) in order to get the width he needed, but following his
surgery for the club feet, he was prescribed custom shoes that are
size 16 4W! Kendall did grow exceedingly rapidly but began slowing
about 17. We were so glad!
Warm wishes to you,
Alene
