A Grocery Buying Club

A "Buying Club" is a group of people who work together to purchase food and/or other products from a distributor. In our case, the distributor is United Natural Foods (UNFI) of Iowa City, Iowa.

United Natural is "known" for offering a great line of over 40,000 products that are generally free of chemical preservatives that contain much healthier ingredients than what is typically available to the American consumer now days. Most products sold by such distributors are sold in full case quantities (6 to 12 pieces per case is common), so lower prices can be offered per unit than would be otherwise. Members order together and share the savings!

A buying club is also a place where people from the same community or area to get to know one another and network additional resources. Our club is planning to offer a club LIBRARY as well as a monthly newsletter. Eventually we hope to bring interesting & informative guest speakers to our area, to provide opportunities for us to learn & grow together as well. Buying clubs have traditionally played a VERY important role in rural development by bringing high quality natural foods and products to areas that may not have access to them otherwise.

Why should YOU join our club?

There are many reasons for joining a buying club; to purchase natural, organic and biodynamic foods at affordable prices is probably the most common reason. By joining our club you will also:

The coolest part is that after you join you can actually shop from the comfort of your home computer or telephone and then pick up a grocery order as often as every 4 weeks

There are no minimums on the size of your order...order $2 or $2000!!

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

¡Ü Members create their own orders either online or by phone
¡Ü Member orders are combined into one large group order
¡Ü Adjustments are made to meet case quantities for shared cases
¡Ü Payment is required of members via money order or cash
¡Ü Payments must clear prior to orders being processed
¡Ü Product Total + Sales Tax (8.35%) + Club Admin/Transport Fees (10% of product total) 
¡Ü $12 annual dues required with your application for your one year subscription to the monthly catalog
¡Ü Reports & labels are prepared for delivery of the orders
¡Ü Buying club coordinators meet the delivery truck with payment in full
¡Ü Coordinators divide the group order into individual orders
¡Ü Members pick up their orders and final bookkeeping is completed

Where many clubs divide the work between members to avoid additional cost, our club coordinators are doing all the work for you in exchange for the 10% fee on your net total.

This covers our costs and will allow for many additional amenities as our club grows.

To join our club, all you have to do is express the desire and share your name, address and phone number with us. That information will be sent to the UNFI office and you will be sent an introductory letter and a catalog with instructions as to how to begin your shopping adventure!
