Subject: Maryland Small Farmers working together-again!!

Hello Friends of the Raw Milk Bill-(HB1010).

This bill comes up for initial committee vote this week. Most people are not aware that this is even happening here in Maryland. It is urgent that we take immediate action to reclaim our dietary right to clean, raw milk (and related products such as butter and cheeses) straight from the family farm.

This email is a request for you to do three simple things to benefit a lot of people.

1. Gain accurate knowledge about this subject- Consumers should have the right to choose between valueless, health-less processed foods and natural, whole life-giving foods. The history of our milk supply is very enlightening-The opposition does not want you to get too educated about this history. WHY? Because their best chance to win will be to use Ignorance and Fear to fight this bill. Did you know that most doctors and dairymen do not have an accurate knowledge of the history of our milk supply? You can learn a lot in just a few minutes by checking out these 2 web pages;   http://www.breadandmoney.com/docs/paradox.html      http://www.raw-milk-facts.com/milk_history.html

2. Contact your legislative representatives- ask them to support the Raw Milk Bill-HB1010. There will be a battle over this Bill-in the public arena and in our legislative process-big business and big dairy will fight this to the “court house steps” and you will hear that it is for a lot of good reasons. Mainly you will hear that it is out of concern for the health of our citizens. You will also hear that it is out of concern for their industry and related liability issues. This is Hogwash but it could be effective hogwash unless we VOICE our OPINION about what is really going on here. Remember, the dairy industry DOES NOT have to sell raw milk to anyone-do they? Why don’t they want me and other small farms selling milk and milk products?

You should have received an email from me with our state representatives contact information. I contacted all 22 offices and left my name, phone number and a message that I was in favor of HB1010-in less than an hour. It does not take long. I also sent you a copy of the email that I sent to all committee members, as an example. Feel free to cut and paste the addresses into your email to them-they especially need to hear from small farm operators and consumers who want our products.

3. Help spread the word about this situation and help to educate others or enlist the help of other like minded individuals. Feel free to forward anything I send to you. We have a big job ahead and not much time. Let’s use the internet to maximize our potential. We do not have the big-buck lobbying program that the dairy industry has but we have something more powerful-individuals who care about changing a broken system.

I have a very small, very clean, very healthy goat herd on my family farm in Frederick County MD. Many people have asked to buy my goat’s milk. I cannot legally sell them my clean, healthy goat milk in Maryland. They can go to Virginia or Pennsylvania and buy their raw milk there. Friends and family love the homemade chevre cheese that I make from my fresh goat’s milk. They say I should sell the cheese. I cannot legally sell the cheese in Maryland. BUT……we have an opportunity to change all of this and make it right for hundreds of small farmers and thousands of educated consumers.

I will be sending you additional information on this Bill as it becomes available to me.

Thank you so very, very much for your help and support. Feel free to contact me with any questions/comments.

***ACTION ALERT***

Raw Milk bill HB1010 to be voted on by the Health and Government Operations Committee

Del. Mary Ann Love’s bill, HB1010, legalizing producer to consumer sales of raw milk, will be voted on in committee this week, probably Thursday or Friday but perhaps earlier.  Your calls matter more than you would believe!!  Please contact the committee members immediately and ask them to vote in favor of HB1010 without amendments.  The Farm Bureau has come out against this bill.  We can be sure that they are pulling out all the stops and meeting behind closed doors with the delegates.  We have done great so far, and made miracles happen, but we need to keep the pressure up for this to go through.

ACTIONS

  1. Call, email and/or fax the members of the House Health and Government Operations Committee and ask them to vote in favor of raw milk bill HB1010 without amendments (contact info below). When you call and write, consider telling them why it is important to you (leaving messages is fine).  Some of the members of the HGO also co-sponsored the bill.  Please THANK them for co-sponsoring.
  2. If at all possible, go to Annapolis and meet with any delegates on the HGO committee.

You can copy/paste the wording below into your email  (please add/change into your own words, this is for your convenience).

I support HB1010, introduced by Del. Mary Ann Love. Please vote FOR HB1010 without amendments.  I support legalizing direct producer to consumer sales of raw milk in Maryland.  Maryland has never had a disease outbreak associated with raw milk.  The passage of this legislation will create opportunity for small family farms.  It will also give Maryland citizens the possibility of locally purchasing one of the healthiest foods that humanity has long relied upon.  Raw milk is a nutrient dense food full of healthy probiotic components that actually enhance health and the immune system.  Citizens of Maryland have the right to purchase raw milk from farmers who they trust.  This is a healthy choice we should be able to make as responsible citizens.
Thank you for your support
