I had the doctor prescribe 100mg for me even though I only need the 25mg dose as it's a LOT cheaper in the long run. I just break off a piece and then pop it under my tongue to let it dissolve, just like they do with nitro from heart patients. Works VERY fast for me, maybe 15 minutes....
I also tried some "super viagra" that comes in capsule format 100mg. Includes some vitamies and other ingredients to help avoid a few of the side effects and supposedly work faster. Seems OK but because they are capsules, I can't split them up so for now, I just use the tables.

With Viagra I dissolve one 50mg in 8 oz. bottle of water and keep it available in my car so I have it whether at home or away. If you wait to dissolve at time of need it takes a minute, maybe two, to dissolve. I think its better to be pre-dissolved.
