Dear Rachel,
Is this the same rule change about which the BLM held public
hearings in Oak Ridge about a year ago? If so, the meeting room at
Roane State was filled to overflowing, with people lined up out into
the central area of the building. To my recollection every person that
spoke (including myself) spoke AGAINST the rule change with the
exception of a single coal industry stooge. If that WAS part of this
same effort to relax the "no dumping tailings into streams"
rule (sorry; don't recall the official name), then one must ask, What
more do they need? If that level of public protest hasn't made any
difference, is there any point in doing more till we get shed of this
reliably evil administration?
Yours truly,
John Mayer

Subject: [TennesseeWhitewater] streams in danger
The Bush administration is about to change a longstanding rule that would
make it easier for mining companies to destroy streams and valleys by
filling them with sludge, rock and other coal mining waste.
There is less than 30 days open for public comments before it could take
effect.
The NRDC has created a simple way of making making your voice heard:

Please share this link with your friends and family. There is very little
news coverage on this and the measure could slide through in the final
hours
of the Bush administration without the public ever knowing.
Here's two articles that spell out what the proposal will do:
