Workshop on Manuscriptology

NIRLAC (Prof K. Nachimuthu Institute of Research for Language and Culture, Coimbatore) is a registered public charitable trust.  This institute has planned to conduct two day workshop on transcription and deciphering of siddha medical manuscripts.  It is a training program to read and write the ancient palm leave manuscripts and paper manuscripts.

Introduction on Varmalogy and Varmam Physiotherapy at Spandanam - 2008

Ayurveda Medical Association of India, Palakkad has organized Workshop on Application of Physiotherapy in Ayurveda under the name of Spandanam - 2008 on October 18th & 19th 2008 at Municipal Town Hall (Annexe), Palakkad. This is a program for the current Ayurvedic practitioners aimed at identifying and integrating principles & practice of modern physiotherapy, through expert deliberation, discussion and demonstration.

On their invitation, Dr.N.Shunmugom, Ph.D.,Honorary Advisor and Dr.Abdul Azees, M.D.(S), Medical Officer, Arts Research Institute, Coimbatore have given presentation on 'Introduction on Varmalogy and Varmam Physiotherapy'.

Nearly 200 qualified Ayurvedic doctors and physiotherapists attended this conference. Valedictory function was attended by Mr.K.S.Sreenivas, IAS, District Collector, Palakkad.

Arts ResearchInstitute (ARI), Coimbatore is a registered public charitable trust. The trustis formed to conduct research on the hidden knowledge of ancient indigenousIndian arts like varmam and other related arts.

ARI is currently involvedin providing medical therapy using ancient Indian medical system of varmam. Wehave 10 therapy centres spread across Tamil Nadu and also one each in NewDelhi, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Pondicherry.

He has trained more than 500 physicians working in Tamil NaduGovernment Hospitals and PHC, based on invitation from Directorate of IndianMedicine and Homoeopathy.

�        Opportunity to work with more than 100 newpatients every week and apply varmam therapy to more than 500 patients everyweek. Since Coimbatore therapy centre is the Head Centre, patients withcomplications are sent here from other therapy centres belonging to thisinstitution.

�        Opportunity to learn varmam heat treatment (Ilaikizhi and Neiykizhi) therapyand basic varmam massage techniques directly from Dr.N.Shunmugom and alsoapply those treatment techniques to the patients visiting Coimbatore centre.

�        Opportunity to work on various research projectsto scientifically prove the efficacy of varmam therapy.

Varmam Magazine

We are in the process of releasing a quarterly magazine on varmam and
its related fields. The first magazine will released in end of January
2007.

The magazine will contain highly educative material about the ancient
art of varmam. Since our emphasis is on creating awareness about
therapeutic aspect of varmam, the magazine will contain the experience
of allopathy / siddha doctors in the field of therapeutic varmam. The
magazine will be in Tamil language.
