The Bilingual Court
Advocate provides client-centered services to persons seeking
protective orders through the Henrico County Juvenile and Domestic Relations
Court. The Court Advocate’s primary responsibilities are to provide
crisis intervention and supportive counseling services. Additional
responsibilities include: assisting clients with accessing additional domestic
violence resources; educating clients about domestic violence; referring
clients to legal, mental health, social services, and other resources;
providing courtroom accompaniment; assisting clients with safety planning;
providing case management and other follow-up services. The Court Advocate must
also cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with multiple court
personnel and allied professionals.
Qualifications include: bachelor’s degree in human
services or equivalent combination of education and experience; fluency in
Spanish and English, and familiarity with the Hispanic/Latino community;
ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks; an understanding of
the issue of intimate partner violence; the ability to work with people of
various ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds; strong organizational
skills; an attitude that exudes energy, initiative, and flexibility. Full-time
position with benefits. Salary range: $32,000-$42,000.
