International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) is pleased to
announce that it is hosting a free webinar, HIV Post Exposure
Prophylaxis and Sexual Assault, on Thursday, July 2, 2009, 2:00
p.m.-3:30 p.m., EDT. This event is presented as part of the IAFN SAFE-ta

Topics to be covered include incidence of post sexual assault HIV
infection;
the role of advocacy for HIV counseling and assistance for victims
related
to HIV; the role and responsibility of the SANE for HIV PEP; and an
'algorithm' approach for programs to use for HIV PEP. This webinar will
be
presented by three outstanding faculty from around the United States:
Edith
Swann, RN, PhD will present on the risk of HIV in sexual assault, as
well as
current research going on in HIV. Ecoee Rooney, RN, MSN, SANE-A will
discuss
a unique n-Pep delivery system for sexual assault patients, and Terri
Hamrick, BA, NMN, WVLSW will present on HIV from the perspective of
advocacy.

Dr. Edith Swann, a Licensed Clinician for over 27 years, has had a
variety
of clinical experience. Since 2006, she has been working in the Division
of
AIDS (DAIDS) in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious
Diseases
(NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Swann completed her
Baccalaureate of Nursing from Hampton Institute, her Masters of Nursing
from
the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), and her Doctor of
Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing from Hampton University.

Ecoee Rooney is the Director of Education and Staff Development at LSU
Public Hospital in New Orleans. Ms. Rooney chaired the New Orleans Rape
Crisis Network from 2005-2007. She earned her MSN from Loyola University
and
has been a SANE-A since 2003.

Since 2006, Terri Hamrick has been the Executive Director of the
Pennsylvania-based organization, Survivors, Inc. Survivors supports
victims
of domestic violence or sexual assault. Prior to this position, she
served
as Clinical Services Manager at the AIDS Community Alliance, Inc. in
Harrisburg. Hamrick earned a Masters of Nonprofit Management from Regis
University in 2003.
