The James House seeks a full-time Advocacy Services Program
Manager to respond to domestic and sexual violence issues primarily through
supervision/provision of direct services. By providing mission driven,
client-centered, culturally relevant services through case management plans,
the candidate will help clients create outcomes that address life satisfaction,
hope and optimism, empowerment and knowledge about issues associated with
interpersonal violence and the services available to address these issues.
Through staff supervision and direct advocacy, the Advocacy Services Program
Manager will be primarily responsible for assuring client self-sufficiency and
sustainable change through the following coaching and empowering strategies:
(comprising 80% of her/his work time):
Exhibit congruency between the mission and values of The
James House and her/his interactions with the community/clients
Respond quickly and appropriately to hotline calls from survivors, family
members and friends, and other service providers
Provide advocacy-based counseling in a culturally relevant and linguistically
appropriate manner
Through case management, advocate for survivors to safety plan, build support
networks, process trauma, and heal from abuse
Make relevant and appropriate referrals for client’s
legal, medical, financial, housing and related needs
Provide training, direction and oversight for the advocacy service program
team, including staff, interns and volunteers
Coordinate and facilitate support groups for The James House clients, including
children
Thoroughly understand and abide by The James House’s policies and
correctly implement all procedures
Complete accurate and timely documentation and reports,
including VAdata
Develop and maintain relationships with allied organizations, community
members, and other service providers
In order to actively promote The James Houses mission, the Advocacy Services Program
Manager will devote 20% her/his time to supporting the following activities:
Foster organizational and infrastructure development
Represent The James House on select coalitions, caucuses, and taskforces
Advocate for key policy issues
Prepare and distribute education and outreach materials
Organize and/or participate in community events, forums, training events and in
cultural celebrations
Conduct
basic administrative/maintenance tasks to contribute to smooth functioning of
office operations
Desired Qualifications:
Education in the field of social work/health/human services
Five
or more years experience with domestic violence and sexual violence
advocacy-based counseling
Ability to maintain a compassionate and professional approach while working
with people in crisis situations, who are of diverse ethnic, religious,
national, educational, language, sexual orientation, cultural, and class
backgrounds
Excellent writing, public speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience in planning and conducting training programs
Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to
multi-task
Strong
computer skills. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
Publisher preferred
Knowledge
of the Tri-Cities and surrounding counties, reliable transportation and a valid
VA state driver’s license
Starting
salary: $36,000 per year + benefits. The position requires some local and
statewide travel, and includes some night and weekend hours. The James House is
