Safe Harbor, a local, non-profit, comprehensive domestic violence
agency, is currently recruiting an energetic, innovative person for the
position of Shelter Operations Advocate. This entry-level position will
provide ample opportunity for professional growth and development.
Employment will ideally begin June 1, 2009.
Shelter Operations Advocate: (Salary Range: $28,000 to $38,000)
The Shelter Operations Advocate provides support and assistance to
shelter residents and with shelter operations.
Description: Responsible for shelter operations and client assistance
services, as assigned by the Shelter Operations Manager. Duties include:
maintain safety of house and residents; provide information, safety
planning, and referral services to crisis hotline callers; complete
intake procedures; provide emotional support to clients in shelter;
maintain records of client interactions according to Safe Harbor
policies and procedures; provide on-call shelter coverage on a rotating
basis; assist in maintaining a clean and sanitary shelter environment;
attend all staff meetings and retreats. Full-time position; daytime and
some evening hours required.
Qualifications: Bachelor degree in human services field or equivalent
experience; an understanding of the issues of family violence; case
management experience; ability to work with people of various ethnic,
racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds; an ability to remain patient and
calm in crisis situations; energetic and flexible; self-directed and
able to make decisions; ability to manage multiple projects and
activities simultaneously. Crisis hotline training or experience a plus!
