Taking Action To End Domestic Violence
A Community Call to Action
Domestic Violence Education and Prevention
April 30, 2008
Hampton University McGrew Towers
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Training Description
African American women are at a disproportionate risk of experiencing death
and injury as a result of domestic violence. This training is designed to
address the disparities and to explore effective strategies for services and
prevention. Featured components of the training will be "A Call to Men"
and the "Break the Silence Campaign."
A Call to Men
Ted Bunch, co-founder of A Call To Men, will examine the responsibility of
well meaning men in ending men's violence against women. Through an
interactive, inspirational keynote, Mr. Bunch will examine how organizations
can get men involved in ending men's violence against women.
Break the Silence Campaign
Based on reports from victims who turn to domestic violence programs and/or
the criminal justice system, we know that most African-Americans turn first
to family and friends. The Break the Silence Campaign has been designed to
provide family, friends, and community members with the information they
need to respond to someone who is being abused.
