The James House seeks to improve services to all people impacted by sexual and domestic violence through the provision of direct services, community outreach and awareness, and technical assistance to allied service agencies in the Hopewell, Virginia area. Currently, we are seeking a Sexual Abuse Intervention Services Advocate, responsible for the development/ implementation of culturally appropriate program services for people who have experienced or who have been affected by childhood sexual abuse and/or incest.

Salary and benefits: Full-time, hourly @16 per hour. Paid vacation, healthcare stipend, 401k

Responsibilities

Maintain files, complete paperwork, prepare reports;
Provide peer counseling, hotline services, outreach programs, legal advocacy, support groups, focus groups and case management;
Provide technical assistance to allied service agencies working to address services for people who have experienced or who have been affected by childhood sexual abuse and/or incest;
Develop and provide culturally appropriate/competent training for staff, volunteers and allied service agencies;
Housekeeping;
Other duties, as required.

Requirements:
Understand the issues of domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking, and be sensitive to the needs of people impacted these issues;
Participate in suggested/required training opportunities; Be energetic and flexible;
Exhibit the ability to remain calm under stressful situations;
Maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license, vehicle and telephone;
Be available for nights and weekends;
Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times;
Have a minimum of 5 years of education and/or experience working with people impacted by sexual violence, domestic violence, child abuse, and/or stalking;
Successful background check, strong verifiable work history and drug screening;
Be available for occasional overnight travel;
Be highly computer literate;
Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
