POSITION INFORMATION
The employee will provide services to victims of domestic violence or sexual
assault. Treatment is high-intensity, time-limited including ensuring the
immediate safety of victims, as well as case management services. Often this is
a crisis situation. The position is located in the Child and Family Services
Division, Department of Human Services. The role of the therapist is to
intervene, support, and explore safety issues while ensuring linkages to
appropriate services. The position is integrated with units responding to Child
Protective Services, and Mental Health/Substance Abuse Services within the
Division.
In addition, the employee participates in the prevention work of the unit, is
involved in program development for schools and other outreach opportunities,
and completes all documentation and administrative requirements according to
agency policy.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum: Trainee level: Master's degree in a clinical discipline such as Social
Work, Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, Counseling or a directly related clinical
discipline which required a clinical practicum involving diagnostic, treatment
and case management services.
Full performance level: Master's degree as stated above PLUS two years of
post-Master's degree experience providing clinical therapy and/or other mental
health services which involved the application of diagnostic, treatment and case
management services.
Substitution: A directly related higher level degree may substitute for the
Master's Degree and one year of experience. In the case of such substitution,
qualifying work experience for appointment at the full performance level must
have been gained after the acquisition of the higher level degree.
Desirable: a) experience in violence intervention/assault programs; b)
experience involving intensive case management and crisis intervention; c)
experience in child welfare including child protective services and/or mental
health/substance abuse services; and/or d) experience with prevention programs
and community outreach programs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. You will be required
to provide police clearance records upon final consideration for employment.
The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor
vehicle operator’s license from the applicant’s place of residence
or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative
methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at
locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or
acquires a license, the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or
the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant’s official
state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a
favorable review of the applicant’s driving record.
An assessment of oral Spanish proficiency will be required before a candidate
can be appointed to this position.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Hours: 40 hours per week, flexible hours during normal business hours
Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend hours required.
The position may be filled either at the full performance or trainee level. If a
trainee is hired, depending on qualifications, a training period will be
established to last no longer than two years. At the end of the training period,
the employee must meet experience, training and proficiency requirements for the
journey level position. Once the candidate qualifies, the one year probationary
period will begin.
Trainee level salary: $42,723 to $70,657.
The employee will receive language pay on all hours worked and on paid leave
hours.
The employee is required to travel within Arlington County to assess complex
and/or urgent situations and coordinate services.
