Rural Information and Advocacy Specialist
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
This position's duties are divided between direct victim service and
enhancing awareness and information for victims of sexual assault and
those who serve the. The person is directly responsible to the
Executive Director for: 1) coordinating/providing client services
such as crisis intervention, advocacy, hospital accompaniment,
information and referral. and 2) work to build relationships with
potential community partners and provide a variety of educational
presentations in the rural counties that RCASA serves. The focus of
this position is to provide information on sexual assault, provide
services to victims of sexual assault, and to inform members of the
community about the availability of services for sexual assault
victims.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develops, schedules and conducts workshops and training
programs for allied professionals, college staff and students,
members of the business community, community organizations, and
victims of sexual assault.
• Coordinates the prevention/risk reduction presentations made
in area public schools and provides those programs.
• Develops and coordinates public awareness activities and
publicity.
• Provides direct client services to victims of sexual
assault. Direct services include: crisis intervention, advocacy,
follow-up, emergency assistance, information and referral, assistance
with compensation claims and hospital/court accompaniment.
• Provides training to RCASA volunteers. Provides staff back-up
for on-call volunteers.
• Coordinates referrals with RCASA staff and/or other community
resources as needed for any program participants or outreach
recipients identified as survivors of sexual victimization.
• Promotes agency services with under served victim populations.
• Promotes collaborative relationships with allied
professionals and community leaders to improve victim access to high
quality, efficient services.
• Develops/revises agency literature to address existing
needs. Appropriately distributes.
• Prepares statistics, reports and other documentation on
education, outreach, public awareness activities and client services
in a timely manner.
• Attends all scheduled supervision meetings, staff meetings,
continuing education programs, and agency or community events, as
requested by the Executive Director.
• Other duties as assigned or necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
• B.A./B.S. in education, psychology or other related field
that provides the required knowledge in the field of sexual
victimization, or equivalent life/education experience.
• Minimum of one years experience working with sexual
assault/abuse issues.
• Ability to be a competent public speaker with excellent oral
and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize
multiple tasks. Work independently.
• Ability to train and supervise volunteers and staff. work
comfortably with a diverse audience
• Able to respond to hospital accompaniments as staff on-call
in a timely fashion.
• Provides own transportation, and has valid Virginia Driver's
License.
• Criminal background check results made available to RCASA.
