Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management (CASOM) Program-FY 2007
US Department of Justice- Bureau of Justice Assistance Grants

Program: This program provides funding to help jurisdictions effectively
manage sex
offenders in the community by implementing new or enhancing existing
programs.
Programs need to increase public safety and reduce victimization.
Applicants may
submit an application in one of three categories.
Category I: Planning Grants: to conduct planning activities for
probation and parole officers and other personnel who provide case
management, supervision, or relapse prevention services to released sex
offenders or are responsible for sex offender registry compliance, use
of electronic monitoring/tracking equipment, or oversee technology
related to sex offender management
Category II: Training Grants: to develop training for probation and
parole officers and other personnel who provide case management,
supervision, or
relapse prevention services to released sex offenders or are responsible
for sex
offender registry compliance, use of electronic monitoring/tracking
equipment, or
oversee technology related to sex offender management
Category III: Implementation And/Or Enhancement Grants: Jurisdictions
may apply for funding to complete implementation and/or enhancement
activities.

Award: Planning grants will be up to $50,000. Training grants will be up
to $50,000.
Implementation and/or enhancement grants to local jurisdictions and
tribes with a
population of 10,000 or less will be up to $150,000. Implementation and/or
enhancement grants to local jurisdictions and tribes with a population
of more than
10,000 will be up to $250,000. All CASOM awards will be made for a
period of up to 24 months.

Practice

Program: This program sponsors research on victim safety and protection;
programs
and policies to hold offenders accountable; law enforcement,
prosecution, and judicial responses; coordinated community responses;
and effective responses in diverse communities.

Award: Total available funding: $1 million; 3 to 5 awards depending upon

The Criminal Justice Response to Sexual Violence: From Adolescence to
Late Adulthood

RESEARCH/EVALUATION GRANTS
Program: This is a proposal for research on sexual violence to increase
women’s safety by informing and improving policy and practice in the
criminal justice system. Proposed research may focus on the criminal
justice response to stranger or nonstranger sexual violence against
adult women and adolescent girls.

Award: Total available funding: $750,000; 2 to 3 awards depending upon

Research and Evaluation on the Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of
Elderly Individuals, Older Women, and Residents of Residential Care
Facilities

RESEARCH/EVALUATION GRANTS

Program: NIJ is accepting research which addresses gaps in our ability
to prevent,
detect, and respond to abuse, neglect, and exploitation, of elderly
individuals, older women, and people who live in residential care
facilities. Priority research areas include studies that: identify and
explore forensic markers of physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect
among the elderly in any setting; evaluate programs designed to respond
to abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elderly individuals, older women,
and people who live in residential care facilities; examines risk and
protective factors associated with the victimization and/or perpetration
of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elderly individuals, older women,
and people who live in residential care facilities; and explore the
nature, incidence, and prevalence of elder abuse, neglect, and
exploitation of elderly individuals, older women, and people who live in
residential care facilities

The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention is soliciting investigator-initiated
research in:

Understanding Risk and Protective Factors for Sexual Violence
Perpetration and the Overlap with Bully Behavior (U49 (CE07-005)

o The purpose of the announcement is to solicit (U49) research
applications to 1) assess the association between bullying experiences
and co-occurring and subsequent sexual violence (SV) perpetration and 2)
test associations between these forms of violence and potentially
modifiable risk and protective factors from multiple levels of social
influence (i.e., individual, family, peer, and community factors) to
determine the shared and unique risk and protective factors for bullying
experiences and SV perpetration. NOTE: Bullying experiences includes
being a perpetrator, victim, or bystander of bullying (see definitions
below). Co-occurring sexual violence perpetration refers to sexual
violence that is perpetrated in the same time period as the bullying
experiences. Subsequent sexual violence perpetration refers to sexual
violence that is perpetrated in a time period after the bullying
experiences. The sexual violence perpetration that is co-occurring or
that happens
subsequent to the bullying experiences can be perpetrated against the
same person/people or against a different person/people than those who
are involved in the bullying experiences.

o Approximately $600,000 is expected to be available.
o It is anticipated that two awards will be funded.
o Funding level will not exceed $300,000 (including both
direct and indirect costs) per year
o Project period is up to three (3) years.
o The award mechanism is a U49 cooperative agreement
