EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Center for Sexual Assault Survivors
The Center for Sexual Assault Survivors (The Center) is a community-based
organization committed to providing support, treatment, and advocacy for
sexual assault survivors and to providing education and awareness to reduce
sexual violence in the community. Founded more than a decade ago, The
Center provides services to the communities of Hampton, Newport News,
Poquoson, York County, Isle of Wight and Southampton, Virginia.
Position Summary
The Center for Sexual Assault Survivors (The Center) seeks an experienced
professional to serve as Executive Director. Successful candidates will
position the organization as a leader in the recovery of persons whose lives
have been disrupted by sexual violence and education toward the reduction of
sexual violence in the community.
The Executive Director provides the primary executive, strategic,
representational and fundraising leadership for The Center. The Executive
Director's role is to ensure the viability and growth of the organization
while overseeing day-to-day operations. The Executive Director will uphold
the vision and mission of the organization, steer the organization toward
that vision and mission, hire and supervise staff, and build relationships
with prospective client referral organizations, service provider partners,
and other constituencies. The Executive Director reports to the Board of
Directors.
Major Responsibilities
Planning and Operations:
. Develop and implement a long-term plan for the financial health of the
organization.
. Oversee development of the annual budget for the organization.
. Ensure that the organization works within its budget.
. Directly oversee the recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of
staff.
. Maintain a work environment that attracts, retains and motivates
high-quality staff.
. Oversee design, development, promotion, delivery, and quality of programs,
products and services.
. Work with the Board of Directors to ensure adequate personnel policies,
oversee staff performance appraisals and mediate resolution of any staff
conflict.
. Stay abreast of significant developments and trends affecting the work of
the organization.
Administration:
. Oversee management of the organization's functions, including: budgets,
employee payroll records, taxes, grants, database, and board meetings.
. Oversee maintenance, as appropriate, current employee payroll records, tax
records, and other financial records.
. Administer grants.
. Ensure that employee relations and functions are in compliance with all
governmental regulations and employee policies and procedures.
Fundraising:
. Develop annual financing strategy in collaboration with staff and Board.
. Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective funders.
. Oversee grant planning, writing and implementation, including identifying
resource requirements, establishing strategies to approach foundations and
ensuring grant obligations are met.
Communications and Marketing:
. Assure that the mission and vision, programs, products, and services are
consistently presented in strong, positive images to relevant audiences.
. Serve as the primary liaison to funding and partner organizations,
contractors and clients.
. Serve as liaison to other organizations doing related work.
. Market the organization through presentation, in-person contact, and
partnerships with community constituencies.
. Give presentations at meetings and conferences.
Board Administration and Support:
. Work with the Board and staff to ensure that the organization has adequate
resources to complete its work.
. Support operations and administration of Board by advising and informing
Board members, and serve as liaison between the Board and staff where
appropriate.
. Work with the Board to undertake long-term organizational and strategic
planning.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
. Excellent written and oral communication skills used in letter and report
writing, outreach, marketing and public speaking;
. Strong interpersonal, social and supervisory skills;
. Familiarity with strategic visioning and short-term planning;
. Ability to develop, manage, and successfully complete multiple, complex
programs and projects operating simultaneously;
. Familiarity with budget development and administration and fund
development;
. Competency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel;
and
. Familiarity with state government administrative procedures, and with
sexual assault and domestic violence agencies.
Education and Experience
. A Master's Degree in administration, business, public policy, social work,
counseling, health education, or another appropriate field related to The
Center's mission, and at least two years of experience related to managing
organizations, and sexual assault and violence policies and programs.
OR
. Bachelor's degree in administration, business, public policy, social work,
counseling, health education, or another appropriate field related to The
Center's mission, plus minimum of three years of experience related to
managing organizations, and sexual assault and violence policies and
programs.
