The Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance is offering the Sexual
Violence Training for Trainers on September 27-29. Over the course of this
three-day training, participants will learn how to convey information and
understanding about seven key elements of an effective community response to
sexual violence using a variety of strategies with a variety of audiences. The
seven key elements that have been identified are: 1) the definition of sexual
violence, 2) the scope of the problem, 3) who's accountable?, 4) laws and legal
options, 5) societal factors that perpetuate sexual violence, 6) effects of
sexual violence, and 7) collaboration.
Please note: this training addresses not only how to train, but also many of the
issues associated with sexual violence. This is an intensive experience: 30
hours of training over three days. It is our intention that participants feel
safe and supported while striving to become more effective trainers about the
many difficult issues concerning sexual violence.
This training will be held at Camp Chanco (near Surry, Virginia, across the
James River from Williamsburg). Cost of the training is $210 for members of the
Action Alliance; $270 for nonmembers. All training materials, double room
lodging, and meals are included in these fees (single rooms are extra).
For this training we use an application process. This helps us with our
marketing and recruitment efforts. If your application is accepted, you will be
notified so that you can register and pay. If you do wish to attend, you must
commit to attending the training in its entirety.
Please contact me for a copy of the application. I'll be happy to send it via
e-mail, fax, or US mail.
I'm also happy to answer any questions.
