Sexual Violence Prevention Funding Opportunity
The Division of Injury and Violence Prevention at the Virginia Department of
Health announces a funding opportunity for individuals interested in attending
the Regional Sexual Violence Prevention Training Institute to be held June
28-30, in Chicago, Illinois.
Goal
To increase the capacity of individuals within organizations in Virginia to
address the prevention of sexual violence.
Background
Sexual violence is a serious public health problem and the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is committed to building and enhancing the
capacity of individuals, organizations, and communities to prevent its
occurrence. The CDC National Center for Injury Prevention and Control is
offering 4 Regional Sexual Violence Prevention Training Institutes in lieu of a
2006 National Conference. Each state and territory is encouraged to bring a
team of 15-20 individuals to the regional training. CDC encourages the use of
state Rape Prevention and Education funds to support increased attendance at
this training.
Objectives
1. To increase participants knowledge of principles of sexual violence
prevention
2. To further the knowledge of additional community members who did not attend
the training
Participation Agreement
Funding will be awarded to individuals who plan to attend the Regional
Sexual Violence Prevention Training Institute to be held June 28-30, in Chicago,
Illinois. Awardees will agree to attend the entire training and attend all
offered workshops, share the information learned with local community members
and submit a final report to VDH.
Requirements
1. The award amount is $1,000.
2. The application must be received in the Virginia Department of
Health, Division of Injury and Violence Prevention by 5 pm May 12, 2006.
3. It is anticipated that awards will be made by May 26, 2006.
4. The application will not exceed 2 pages.
5. It may be submitted through the mail, faxed, hand-delivered or
electronically.
6. Awardees must register and attend the Regional Sexual Violence
Prevention Training Institute to be held June 28-30, in Chicago, Illinois.
7. Awardees must submit a final report and invoice to VDH by July 31, 2006.
Application
1. Applicant Information - clearly identify the individual applying for the
funds. Contact information should include: name, agency, mailing address, phone
and email.
2. Training participation – indicate the applicant’s willingness to attend the
regional training in its entirety and attend all scheduled sessions.
3. Statement of need – briefly explain the financial need for this award.
4. Information dissemination plan – clearly state the applicant’s
proposed strategy for disseminating the information to the local community
before July 31, 2006.
5. Final report - indicate agreement to submit required final report to VDH by
July 31, 2006.
Scoring of the Application
This is a competitive application process with a limited number of awards
available. It is also contingent on receipt of funds from CDC. Applications
will be scored based on:
1. Adherence to the guidelines in this document.
2. Statement of need
3. Information dissemination plan
4. Indication to attend training and submit final report
