Is your agency or school planning events and activities for Sexual Assault
Awareness Month? Are men and adolescent boys being asked to get involved?
Are you looking for a way to involve males? Well look no further!
In an effort to get men involved in sexual violence prevention, the Virginia
Department of Health is promoting the White Ribbon Campaign.
The White Ribbon Campaign is an effort to get men involved in working to end
men's violence against women, raise awareness of the problem and support
organizations that deal with the consequences of men's violence against
women. Men are asked to wear white ribbons as a personal statement that
they will never commit, condone, or remain silent about men's violence
against women. Men are asked not just to become "aware" of this issue but
are invited to actually participate in efforts to reduce men's violence
against women. For more information visit:
www.whiteribbon.ca
We can no longer think of rape as "only a women's issue." Sexual violence
impacts both men and women. Ending sexual violence begins by inviting men
to learn about sexual violence and challenging them to examine their ideas
of masculinity. Men have a responsibility and the power to end sexual
violence. Every time a man's voice joins those of women in speaking out
against rape, men become part of the solution.
If you are planning a White Ribbon Campaign and would like one of the
educational videos, contact Robert Franklin by April 3, 2006. The White
Ribbon Campaign must be completed by April 30, 2006 and event forms must be
returned by May 5, 2006. Contact me for the event forms.
This offer is only available to Virginia Agencies, one video per school or
agency, and free videos are available while supplies last (at least 25 free
videos available).
