VIRGINIA SEXUAL AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ACTION ALLIANCE TRAINING

Key Elements of an Effective Community Response to Sexual Violence

March 24, 10 am-4 pm, Winchester Medical Center, Winchester VA

Key Elements of an Effective Community Response to Sexual Violence is intended for professionals who are interested in learning more about sexual violence or who, through their work, offer services to victims of sexual violence. This training will address the seven key elements for providing an effective response to sexual violence:

  • Definition: Can you effectively identify sexual violence?
  • Scope of the problem: Who is affected? Who perpetrates? How common is sexual violence?
  • Who’s accountable? Who (or what institutions) do you hold responsible for sexual violence?
  • Laws: What do you know about sexual assault, stalking, and other relevant laws?
  • Societal factors that perpetuate sexual violence: What roles do sexism, classism, racism, ableism and heterosexism play?
  • Effects of sexual violence: How are individuals, relationships, communities and our society affected?
  • Collaboration: Who are your community partners in ending sexual violence?

Cost: $50 for VSDVAA members; $70 for nonmembers
