OVW Grants to Reduce Violent Crimes Against Women on Campus

The primary purpose of the Campus Program is to develop and strengthen victim

activity. Up to $200,000 will be available for individual projects, or $400,000
for consortia.

Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Rural Domestic Violence and Child
Victimization Enforcement Grant Program

The primary purpose of the Rural Program is to enhance the safety of victims of
domestic violence, dating violence, and child victimization by supporting
projects uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes in rural
jurisdictions. OVW welcomes applications that propose innovative solutions for
achieving this goal. The Rural Program challenges victim advocates, law
enforcement officers, pre-trial service personnel, prosecutors, judges and other
court personnel, probation and parole officers, and faith- and/or
community-based leaders to collaborate to overcome the problem of domestic
violence, dating violence and child victimization and to ensure that victim
safety is paramount in providing services to victims and their children. The
award period for these grants will be 24 months. Budgets must reflect 24 months
of project activity. Local and state agencies and tribal governments serving
fewer than 5 rural counties will be eligible to receive up to $500,000.
Multi-jurisdiction, multi-state, and tribal consortium projects will be eligible
to receive up to $900,000. (Multi-jurisdictional projects are those that propose
to serve 5 or more rural counties.)

OVW Tribal Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalitions

The purpose of the Tribal Coalitions Program is to build the capacity of
survivors, advocates, Indian women's organizations, and victim services
providers to form nonprofit, nongovernmental tribal domestic violence and sexual
assault coalitions to advance the goal of ending violence against American
Indian and Alaska Native women. The award period for these grants is 24 months.
Budgets must reflect 24 months of project activity.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS: Established nonprofit, nongovernmental tribal coalitions,
individuals or organizations that propose to incorporate as nonprofit,
nongovernmental tribal coalitions that will obtain nonprofit status within eight
months from the beginning of the project period, that have as their primary
mission addressing domestic violence and/or sexual assault against American
Indian and/or Alaska Native women.

OVW Legal Assistance for Victims Grant Program

The Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV) Grant Program is intended to increase the
availability of legal assistance necessary to provide effective aid to victims
of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, or sexual assault who are
seeking relief in legal matters arising as a consequence of that abuse or
violence. The award period for new and continuation grants will be 24 months.
Budgets must reflect 24 months of project activity. Funding is dependant upon
criteria, see solicitation for further details.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS: Only FY 2004 grantees, previously unsuccessful applicants,
new applicants, and FY 2005 grantees that received a one year award are eligible
to apply for FY 2006 funding and private nonprofit entities, publicly funded
organizations not acting in a governmental capacity and Indian tribal
governments.

BJA Gang Resistance Education and Training Program

The Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program is a
school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum
administered by BJA in cooperation with DOJ’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The program's primary objective is prevention and
is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang
membership. G.R.E.A.T. lessons focus on providing life skills to students to
help them avoid engaging in delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems.
G.R.E.A.T. funds may be used to support one or more of the following G.R.E.A.T.
curricula, components, and activities: 13-week middle school curriculum (a core,
mandatory component); six week elementary (4th and 5th grades) curriculum; six
lesson G.R.E.A.T. families component; or G.R.E.A.T. summer component. G.R.E.A.T.
curricula and component overviews can be viewed at www.great-online.org.
Applications may be submitted for any amount based on the level of the project
below, for a maximum award of $250,000.
• Level I: Up to $60,000. Agencies implementing the G.R.E.A.T. middle school
component.
• Level II: Up to $100,000. Agencies implementing the G.R.E.A.T. middle school
component and one other component.
• Level III: Up to $150,000. Agencies implementing the G.R.E.A.T. middle
school component and two other components.
• Level IV: Up to $250,000. Agencies implementing the G.R.E.A.T. middle School
component and three other components.
All awards will have a 12-month project period. Applicants can elect a January 1
or March 1 start date for their project period. A 10 percent match is required.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS: Any state, local, or tribal law enforcement agency with an
active G.R.E.A.T. Program or committed to starting a G.R.E.A.T. Program with a
local education agency is eligible to apply for funding.

NCIPC/CDC Dissertation Grant Awards for Violence-Related Injury Prevention
Research in Minority Communities

The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) and the Center for
Disease Control are soliciting investigator-initiated research from doctoral
students that will help expand and advance our understanding of violence, its
causes, and prevention strategies in minority communities. The proposed research
must address one of the research priorities listed in the following chapters
from NCIPC’s research agenda:
• Preventing intimate partner violence,
• Preventing sexual violence, and child maltreatment,
• Preventing suicidal behavior, or
• Preventing youth violence.
The study population must be an ethnic minority. The average award amount will
be $25,000 and approximately four awards will be funded for a project period of
one year.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS: Doctoral students from any U.S. public or private college
or university. The institution must support an accredited doctoral level
training program. The performance site must be domestic. The principal
investigator must be a student in good standing enrolled in an accredited
doctoral degree program and must have a mentor for the proposed research.

NCIPC is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and
advance the understanding of violence, its causes, and prevention strategies.
Applications must address one of the following research objectives:
DISSEMINATION RESEARCH:
Conduct studies to build knowledge on methods, structures, and processes to
implement existing evidence-based interventions, programs and policies to
prevent either perpetration of or victimization from youth violence, intimate
partner violence, sexual violence, child maltreatment, and/or suicidal behavior.
INTERVENTION EVALUATION RESEARCH:
a) Evaluate the effectiveness of primary prevention interventions, programs, and
policies to prevent perpetration of youth violence, intimate partner violence,
sexual violence, child maltreatment and/or suicidal behavior.
b) Evaluate the effectiveness and safety of screening and intervention in
primary care settings to prevent intimate partner violence and/or sexual
violence.
PROTECTIVE FACTORS RESEARCH:
Identify protective factors across at least two levels of influence (e.g.,
individual, family, peers,
school/workplace, neighborhood, community) that reduce risk for the perpetration
of youth violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, child
maltreatment, and/or suicidal behavior.
INFLUENCE OF THE MEDIA AND PARENTAL BEHAVIOR ON VIOLENCE PREVENTION:
a) Conduct studies to build knowledge on methods, structures, and processes to
implement existing evidence-based interventions that address the influence of
the media or parental behavior on the prevention of youth violence, intimate
partner violence, sexual violence, child maltreatment, and/or suicidal behavior.
b) Evaluate the effectiveness of primary prevention interventions that address
the influence of the media or parental behavior on the prevention of the
perpetration of youth violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence,
child maltreatment and/or suicidal behavior.
Six to eight awards will be funded at approximately $300,000 per year for a
project period of up to three years.
ELIGIGLE APPLICANTS: Public and private profit and nonprofit organizations,
colleges and universities, research institutions, hospitals, community-based
organizations, faith-based organizations, Indian tribal governments and
organizations, and state and local governments. The principal investigator must
have conducted violence prevention research and published the findings in a
peer-reviewed journal.

NIJ Sexual Violence from Adolescence to Late Adulthood: Research, Evaluation,
and the Criminal Justice Response Solicitation Papers

Women With Disabilities

This grant makes up to $750,00 available to States;Units of local governments;
Indian tribal governments; and Nongovernmental private entities, including faith

against women who are individuals with disabilities. Proposed projects must
focus on providing education and technical assistance on one or more of the
following areas:
• The nature, definition and characteristics of domestic violence, sexual
assault, and stalking experienced by women with disabilities.
• Outreach activities to ensure that women with disabilities who are victims
of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking receive appropriate
assistance.
• Federal anti-discrimination laws, including the Americans with Disabilities
Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
• Cost-effective ways that shelters and victim service organizations may
accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities in accordance with the
Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

OVC Project Helping Outreach Programs to Expand

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Office
for Victims of Crime (OVC) is soliciting applications for Project Helping
Outreach Programs to Expand. The objective of the project is to provide
resources to grass roots community-based organizations to improve outreach and
services to crime victims. Nonprofit grass roots community-based victim service
programs that do not receive federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) victim
assistance grant funding may apply for a one-time grant, up to $5,000, to
support program development, networking, coalition building, and service
delivery. Funds may be used to develop program literature, train advocates,
produce a newsletter, support victim outreach efforts, and recruit volunteers.
It is an open solicitation and is contingent upon the availability of funds. The
grant funds must be expended within a 12-month period. Application information
