Legislative Advocacy Training: Effectively Communicating with Elected
Officials in 2006

It is that time of year again to prepare for the next General Assembly
session. This training will provide an overview of the legislative and
budget processes, the most effective ways to contact and educate your
legislators, and how to access information during the General Assembly. We
will present the Five-Year Public Policy Priorities of VSDVAA and discuss
the VSDVAA priorities for the 2006 General Assembly and other legislation we
anticipate will be introduced. Through an interactive exercise we will
provide opportunities for participants to practice presenting and discussing
these issues. Finally, we will present ideas on how to mobilize locally
between now and the General Assembly so you are prepared to act come
January, 2006.
