About Our Keynote Speaker . . .
Sarah Buel has spent the past 22 years working
with battered women, abused children, and
juveniles within the legal system. A survivor of
domestic violence, Ms. Buel has committed
herself to improving the court and community
response to domestic violence. She has helped
start shelters, emergency food programs and
legal clinics and has drafted significant domestic
violence legislation and regulations.
Ms. Buel was a welfare mother before working
full time in the day and going to school at night
for seven years to obtain her undergraduate
degree in 1987. In 1990, she graduated cum
laude from Harvard Law School and, after
spending six years as a prosecutor in Quincy,
Massachusetts, is currently a Clinical Professor
at the University of Texas School of Law.
A renowned expert and consultant on domestic
violence, Ms. Buel has been published in a
number of professional journals including
Women’s Health Issues, Texas Prosecutor and
Patient Care. She has received Public Service
Awards from both the University of Texas Law
Fellowships and the American College of
Obstetricians and Gynecologists as well as the
National Council of Juvenile and Family Court
Judge’s Humanitarian Award and the Allied
Professional Award from the National
Organization of Victim Assistance. Most
recently, the National Women’s History
Project recognized Sarah Buel as its 2004
Women’s History Month Honoree.

The registration fee for this training event is $60 if
paid before 3/26/04 and $75 thereafter. Breakfast,
lunch, breaks, and conference materials are included.
