In Virginia, 87% of first sexual assaults were committed against children
(VDH, 2003). How can we work to prevent this tragedy? This event promises to
be an emotionally powerful conversation that will enhance our understanding
of the impact of child sexual abuse and its prevention. The morning session
will be a dialogue that brings recovering sex offenders and survivors of
child sexual abuse together to talk about the need for new approaches to
prevention efforts. The afternoon will offer an overview of successful
public health approaches utilized by Stop It Now! to raise awareness and
build skills to address this issue along with a facilitated discussion of
its application to existing programs and services in Virginia. Participants
can attended either the morning session or both sessions.
