I bought some organic Lavender oil from Mountain Rose...it was wonderful, but expensive.  Can anyone suggest another source to buy Lavender EO.  It doesn't have to be organic....just smell really, really good without having to use very much oil.

yes- it really was a fun day- I enjoyed meeting everyone-

I still smile when I think of all of us sitting in my "work area" at the shop! and think about those "huge" donuts Ginger brought!  I may have to take a detour thru Black Creek sometime- just to get some!

we've had quite a busy spring- and now the official "tourist" season begins-so I'm making soap every day now!  and I'm trying to remain pleasant and smiling- even when people bring me a used sliver of soap- and ask me what it was- they want the same thing again!

and it is finally "hot hot hot" ( and humid) up here!!  I went from space heaters to air conditioner in 1 day!!

Sorry, I thought someone had gotten back to the group on this, guess not.

Any way a small gathering was held June 6 in Eagle River at Jean Greves shop,
Cranberry Lake Soap.
There were about 12 or so people, some were visitors.
We had goody bags and garage sale items. Those that did an oil purchase or early
buys from Scenter Stage got their items.
Then we had demos with group participation in all but one. The demos included
makeing bath bombs, smelly gellies, and felting soap, I thnk that was it (Hope I
didn't leave anyone out). Everyone got to take home the smelly gelly and felted
soap that they made. The last demo, Jean showed us her trick when you have a
scent that might be troublesome and traces too soon.
Well, I can not forget the food - donuts, cookies, fudge, brownies,
strawberries, and more for brunch. Jean's husband Larry, went and got subs,
chips and drinks for lunch.
And then someone asked to ride on the fire truck parked out front. So Larry
fired it up and everyone took a ride with the siren going and bells ringing!
This was a short gathering, but very nice. It didn't even rain until we all
started to leave.

Hi all,

I need some input; I was invited to teach some classes this fall to adults and middle school children. (different classes) Soap etc to the adults and m&p and crafty gift type stuff for the younger ones.

I'd like any ideas from those who have done this before. I've got to come up with ideas (I have many rolling around in my head already), education, actual soap and to me the toughest of all--a price per student for my time.

Believe me, any information, experiences or ideas that you could pass along would be more than appreciated.

Thanks,

Connie

Kim,
Below is the information that Ginger just posted a couple of days ago:

Soap Makers Gathering

June 6, 2009

Eagle River, WI

There is no fee involved for this meeting- it will be a very casual day of visiting/meeting other soapers and a few demonstrations.  I offered our building as a meeting place after the UMSG cancelled their Gathering.

I have NOT solicited donations for door prizes/samples from any vendors- therefore there will NOT be goody bags/prizes for those attending- just don't want anyone disappointed!  (Scenter Stage will donate some door prizes!)

The gathering will be at our Retail Soap Shop-not a "meeting hall/facility".

We also own Scenter Stage Supply business- but this is a SEPARATE BUSINESS- LOCATED IN SOUTHEASTERN WISCONSIN-

NOT IN EAGLE RIVER- WE CAN ARRANGE TO HAVE ANY ORDERS PLACED PREVIOUSLY BROUGHT TO THE MEETING-

ANY ORDERS WILL HAVE TO BE RECEIVED BY MAY 22, 2009.  I will try to have a "vendors table" with some fragrances for sale.

You are welcome to bring any "garage sale" items you want to trade or sell to anyone attending.  I will have a table set up for this.

If you would like to "swap" any products- just bring an item and take an item- I will have a "swap" table set up- it's always fun to see everyone's soap and products- and take someone else's home to try!

Time: 9:30 AM- 4PM (?) or whenever!

If there is an interest: I will host a "Pot Luck" dinner at our cottage for anyone wanting to attend- I will provide hamburgers/hot dogs etc- those attending please bring something to share!  2 great grocery stores in town with great deli's (one is a Pick n Save).  Will meet at a designated spot about 5 PM to follow to our house ( we're so far into the woods- you'd never find us by yourselves!)

Agenda/ Demos: (not necessarily in this order)

meeting/greeting and visiting

Felting Soap- this can be a "hands on"- if you would like to felt a soap- bring a bar of soap (any kind- doesn't need to be handmade!)- a hand towel- a piece of nylon stocking or netting- big enough to wrap around soap- I will have some wool roving for sale- enough for 1 bar for $1.50.

Smelly Jelly- Ginger Muenster

M&P- maybe if there is interest

CP Soapmaking- if there is an interest- mixing lye-lining molds- stick blending- in the pot swirl- adding difficult FO to oils before adding lye-

Bath Bombs- this can be a "hands on"- anyone who wants to pack and unmold a bath bomb using a "Michaels round clear 2 piece ornament"

Anyone wanting to demo or speak on a topic- please volunteer!

Lunch:  We will have someone ( Larry) pick up a variety of Sub sandwiches, soda, water, and chips- share costs. Snacks/munchies welcome!

Oil Buy: please contact Pat Norby- pater@... if you want to order any oils from Columbus Food/Soapers Choice- for delivery by freight. (a significant saving over individual UPS Shipping)

Directions to Shop:  Cranberry Lake Soap

                       5145 County Road G

                       Eagle River, WI 54521

cell phones: 715-891-2167 or 715-617-7515

You will have to find Eagle River on a map from your home! Then Hwy 45 North of town about 2 miles to County Road G (stoplights- just past Best Western Derby Inn)

Left (West) on County Road G 1 1/2 miles to our shop- (looks for sign with Bear in a Bathtub!) left/south side of road- about 1/2 mile past St Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church.

questions/suggestions please contact me:  cranberrylk@... or 715-891-2167

Look forward to meeting everyone!

Due to the nature of the meeting and business- please no children.

Please RSVP Jean so she knows how many to expect by May 15.

We have seven people ordering on the oil buy. The weight came to over 1000
lbs so there is some real savings :-)

Thanks for all the information! Now, after all that, I've got a meeting during
that week, so no combining trips. Darn! But, I'll still be there--it sounds so
fun and relaxing!

Karen, huge bummer you can't be there. I always look forward to seeing you!

How many are coming?

How did the oil buy go? It's alot of work, so I hope it was worthwhile.

Did anybody ever come up with a lye buy? If I could find a supplier, I'd do it,
but nothing in our neighborhood. Hey, I just had a flashback--how many would be
interested? Get to me quick and I'll make a few calls on Monday. Might be
possible.

I'd also do a bamboo charcoal buy if there was any interest. LMK on that too.

Got a thrift sale next weekend so I'll be busy this week. I always swear I'm
never doing this again!

Hi, Ginger,

I just finished writing to both Pat and Jean telling them that I won't be able to attend the gathering.  It's a bummer in more ways than one -- my mom grew up about 50 miles from there (as the crow flies) and if I went to the gathering I'd be able to visit cousins I haven't seen in ages.  My brother, who lives in IL, has a cabin in my mom's old town, so I could maybe even coax him to come up while I'm there.   ...I'm secretly hoping that this turns out so well and is not a lot of work for Jean, that she'll consider hosting it again next year...gonna' keep my fingers crossed!

I'll plan on making your noodles sometime the end of May / beginning of June, if that's still okay with you.  Lemmeknow.

Haven't had much time to spend outside; too much stuff going on that needs attention.  I'm glad we haven't had lots of nice weather yet, as I'd really be going crazy with having to be inside!  Only veggies Jay has planted so far are peas, and they're up now.

Take care--

Karen
