There is no fee involved for this meeting- it
will be a very casual day of visiting/meeting other soapers and a few
demonstrations. I offered our building as a meeting place after the UMSG
cancelled their Gathering.
I have NOT solicited donations for door
prizes/samples from any vendors- therefore there will NOT be goody bags/prizes
for those attending- just don't want anyone disappointed! (Scenter Stage
will donate some door prizes!)
The gathering will be at our Retail Soap
Shop-not a "meeting hall/facility".
We also own Scenter Stage Supply business-
but this is a SEPARATE BUSINESS- LOCATED IN SOUTHEASTERN WISCONSIN-
NOT IN EAGLE RIVER- WE CAN ARRANGE TO HAVE
ANY ORDERS PLACED PREVIOUSLY BROUGHT TO THE MEETING-
ANY ORDERS WILL HAVE TO BE RECEIVED BY MAY
22, 2009. I will try to have a "vendors table" with some
fragrances for sale.
You are welcome to bring any "garage
sale" items you want to trade or sell to anyone attending. I will
have a table set up for this.
If you would like to "swap" any
products- just bring an item and take an item- I will have a "swap"
table set up- it's always fun to see everyone's soap and products- and take
someone else's home to try!
Time: 9:30 AM- 4PM (?) or whenever!
If there is an interest: I will host a
"Pot Luck" dinner at our cottage for anyone wanting to attend- I will
provide hamburgers/hot dogs etc- those attending please bring something to
share! 2 great grocery stores in town with great deli's (one is a Pick n
Save). Will meet at a designated spot about 5 PM to follow to our house (
we're so far into the woods- you'd never find us by yourselves!)
Agenda/ Demos: (not necessarily in
this order)
meeting/greeting and visiting
Felting Soap- this can be a
"hands on"- if you would like to felt a soap- bring a bar of soap
(any kind- doesn't need to be handmade!)- a hand towel- a piece of nylon
stocking or netting- big enough to wrap around soap- I will have some wool
roving for sale- enough for 1 bar for $1.50.
Smelly Jelly- Ginger Muenster
M&P- maybe if there is interest
CP Soapmaking- if there is an
interest- mixing lye-lining molds- stick blending- in the pot swirl- adding
difficult FO to oils before adding lye-
Bath Bombs- this can be a "hands on"-
anyone who wants to pack and unmold a bath bomb using a "Michaels round
clear 2 piece ornament"
Anyone wanting to demo or speak on a topic-
please volunteer!
Lunch: We will have someone ( Larry) pick up
a variety of Sub sandwiches, soda, water, and chips- share costs.
Snacks/munchies welcome!
Oil Buy: please contact Pat Norby- pater@...
if you want to order any oils from Columbus Food/Soapers Choice- for
delivery by freight. (a significant saving over individual UPS Shipping)

Hi All,
John and I are trying to arrange some time off to visit MI and IN in June. So,
What are the times for the Gathering? We'd like to combine this with our trip
either going to or coming from. Thanks for the information. I order my oils, did

Happy to keep
in touch Kim. A little update for those who remember Renee and her friend
Melissa. They are both proud Mommies these days. Renee had a little girl and
Melissa had a baby at the same time as Renee. Melissa went ahead and had twins
after that so she is a mother of three!! Seems weird, they were both at the
gathering in Rochester. I'm going to call Renee and see about them joining us
in Eagle River. Enough of my reporting abilities!
I’ll make sure

That is Great! I’m very happy that the money is going to
help animals. Animals don’t have a voice in how they are treated or
not treated.

I'm so glad too! I just signed on as a Rescue Mom for
Havanese dogs. I am so looking forward to my next baby. The thing that many don't
know is that many of these dogs come into the system abused or from puppy
mills. Some have no idea how to play or even be touched and loved. So sad! They
need love and attention for sure, but many also need Vet care that can be quite
expensive. Thanks so much to those who voted!

Hay Folks!
If we want the money to go to humane societies that actually DO something for
abandoned dogs & cats, couldn't we pick a handful of local groups in the major
metro areas our members reside and send them checks? Of course this could pose
some argument that "my town didn't get any money", but that is better than
supporting groups with causes that aren't matching up with what many
believed...you know if your local group does or not.
The other alternative is the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association)...

I only copied from the Activist cash website as it was concise. The synopsis they have completely parallels what we in agriculture and AKC hear about the group. I just googled "what is humane society of united states". Many results.
I posted this because I have known 3 people in recent years who mistakenly thougth this was an org that helped lost dogs and cats.
First of all, this is certainly not an attack on Kathy. I appreciate
that she posted her information. I think the more knowledge we have, the better.
This is why I am taking the opportunity to post my findings below.
-------------------
I did some research after reading the website Kathy posted below.
It appears that this website (Activistcash.com) is owned by Consumer
Freedom. Consumer Freedom is a nonprofit corporation run by lobbyist
Richard Berman through his Washington DC based for profit public relations
company. This company was formerly known as the Guest Choice Network and
was initially set up by Berman with a $600,000 “donation” from
Philip Morris. It appears he arranges for large amounts of corporate
money to funnel into nonprofits and then hires his own company as a consultant
to make money.
Is this good or bad? Is the information Kathy provided
legit or not? I’m not to say either way. This is just another
instance of “buyer beware” and do your research before deciding for
or against anything and also consider the sources where you are getting your
information. There are so many “slants” on the internet it is
often difficult to easily find the truth on most topics. I find it’s
best (at least for me) to read many different websites and find and research
the owners and sources of all of them. After I’ve attempted to read
all sides I make my own decision.

the United States (HSUS) has NO affiliation with your local, good, humane
society. So if you voted, thinking that our donation will help your local
shelters, it won't. Kathy
---------
Info below is from ActivistCash.com:
Despite the words "humane society" on its letterhead, the Humane
Society of the United States (HSUS) is not affiliated with your local animal
shelter. Despite the omnipresent dogs and cats in its fundraising materials,
it's not an organization that runs spay/neuter programs or takes in stray,
neglected, and abused pets. And despite the common image of animal protection
agencies as cash-strapped organizations dedicated to animal welfare, HSUS has
become the wealthiest animal rights organization on earth.
Instead, HSUS spends millions on programs that seek to economically cripple
meat and dairy producers; eliminate the use of animals in biomedical research
labs; phase out pet breeding, zoos, and circus animal acts; and demonize
hunters as crazed lunatics. HSUS spends $2 million each year on travel expenses
alone, just keeping its multi-national agenda going.
As a reminder, you can change your vote as many times as you
wish until the poll closes. The last vote you place will be your final and
counted vote.

This
part made me rethink my vote: “Worth magazine gave HSUS a
“D” rating for spending as much as 53 percent of its expenses on
fundraising.”

I voted for rpaw rescued pets are wonderful. They helped us find
a home for our dog years ago. The foster mom contacted me to let me know that
he went to a good home with no children. It was hard to let our dog go as it
