The first treatment for diabetic type 2 is to loose at least 10-15% of your body
weight -- only then consider chronic drug therapy --regardless of what any
physician says.

Many things affect a single glucose reading. So a
single fasting glucose test is NOT reliable as proof
of diabetes, but with diabetes running in your family,
I would definitely consider it as a sign of pre-diabetes
which can be controlled by diet and exercise.
