So you are saying both your mother and your daughter are diabetic? The
reading of 265 I think is pretty conclusive diagnosis of diabetes by any
ones standards, but as I am not a dr., I am just saying, that in my opinion.
I am assuming that you did not report that finding to yoru doctor at the
time or likely you would have gotten started with some medication then.
I think 99 percent of us that are Type ll love to eat and LOVE our carbs.
It is tough to make those changes, very tough, but we are all just darned
lucky we have the chance to make improvements in our long term prognosis by
being able to make those choices. With so many other diagnosis, the person
is helpless to change their final outcome. You can not only make major
changes in the progression of your disease, but you have the important
opportunity to also impact your mother and your daughter's perspective on
their desease and offer them support. You probably know by now that 100 is
the magic blood sugar number. Being as close as we can get to that number
is what will alter the course of our future. I am very puzzled as to why
you have not been started on medication with those numbers. Every day with
sugars that high, puts you at greater risk for long term complications in my
opinion.
The numbness in your feet is also due to neuropathy. It usually starts in
the toes, but progesses if you do not get your sugar under control. It tend
later to affect your sexual organs in both men and women. You can lose the
good sexual feelings which come from nerve stimulation. This is not a good
thing, particularly for women who tend to have a lower sex drive than their
husbands anyway. Husbands are not happy when their wives have an even lower
sex drive because of the neuropathy. I dont' know that I have seen this
discussed before on this list but I think it is important that we share this
as I know it affects a lot of women.
So, Linda, you did the right thing by joining the group as it shows that you
are ready to take care of your desease as best you can.
