You had to mention Ice Cream :-)
I just had to respond because I just found Edy's low carb ice cream at
Woodman's groceries, but I don't know if this is a big chain or not but WOW,
what a taste treat for a very low sugar content. If you can find this ice
cream, please give it a try. Any sweets that contain Splenda however, you
need to eat in moderation because otherwise you may get a build up of gas in
your system, not pleasant.

When my blood sugar was the high I didn't know that I was diabetic and I
actually was so sick that I couldn't eat anything I would drink juice
sometimes now I know I shouldn't have done that but I lost 22 lbs. in 10
days and I could hardly get out of bed there is no doubt in my mind that if
I hadn't went to the hospital that day I would probably be dead. I was that
sick. But I do watch the sweets I told my sister I would love to be able to
eat a bananna split.haha.But I don't I just keep passing the ice cream
shop..lol Robin

Robin,
My sugar has never been in the six hundreds I don't think but then again,
who knows as I changed my ways when I was diagnosed and never again ate a
dozen Christmas cookies at one sitting.
Your sugars sound so well controlled now, much to your credit. I have never
heard a dr. ever say to run into the ER to get an insulin shot if you are
over 180 though, that sure seem drastic to me but I don't mean to contradict
your doctor. There are a lot of well informed people on this list who may
be able to comment on the need for an insulin injection at that sugar
level.
I do not use insulin but instead use oral meds to try to keep a handle on my
sugar levels. I was also surprised that your doc told you to eat something
sweet if under 80. Most of the time I think they suggest a very small glass
or orange juice, unless it is unavailable.
I can not even imagine eating a 70 carb meal as I try to really limit my
carbs (which all break into sugar), but again, there are several members on
this list who do not worry about the effect of consuming that many carbs so
you will have to see what others think as well.
This list kind of goes into dormancy sometimes but at other times there are
several posts so in either case, Welcome aboard.

I'm new to this group and I'm glad that I found it.I found out about
21/2yrs. ago and I take metformin 500mg.1tablet 2x a day.I'm still
trying to figure out how all this works.I talked to a deitician
about this and she told me with the calories the Dr. has me on I
need to eat 75 grams of carbs per meal(3) and 40 for a bedtime
snack.I do really good about keeping my blood sugar under control it
usually runs in the 90's.The dr. told me when I first found out that
I was diabetic that if my blood sugar went under 80 to eat something
sweet and if it ran over 180 to go to the E.R. and get an insulan
shot.Thank goodness I have never had to do that if it runs over a
115 is unusual.I just don't know what to expect.I hear about people
going into insulan shock or something and I wonder if that could
happen to me.I have 2 kids at home I'm single and one is 18yrs old I
do have a 6 yr old too. And I know they wouldn't know what to
do.When I first found out I had this when I went to the E.R. my
blood sugar was 646.But they got it down and it hasn't been over 143
since then.I hope I can learn more about this through other
experiences and things.Thanks Robin
