I have used Metformin for a couple of years and it helped my sugar levels a
little almost immediately. It works on making your cells better able to
absorb the sugar in your bloodstream and also provides some blocking of
sugar produced in your liver. Maybe checking your sugar at other times
might show more improvement. My experience is that the gastric distress
will completely disappear in a week or so. I have lots of gastric problems
from the sugar alcohols in candy and other sugar free food and I don't think
that ever gets better :-(

Subject: [TypeTwo] started metformin
I've been coasting for about 3 years now trying to manage the sugal levels
with diet and exercise alone, but that doesn't seem to do it any longer.
Part of the problem is not being able to exercise because of needing a total
knee replacement, which makes it uncomfortable to walk and ride my
stationary bike.
Anyway, she started me on 1/2 tablet of 500 mg metformin once at day with my
evening meal. So that's just 250 mg of metformin. I felt nauseaus on and
off last evening and today, a bit dizzy, but nothing really bad. I don't
like feeling this way though. Now...my question is....how long does this
medication take to begin to work? I'm not seeing a drop in my sugar levels
last night nor tonight after eating. It actually seems higher than it used
to be. Is that possible?
