Dear Carole,
You can only do your best. There is no other way and
if those are Your normal levels which you always have
then that is what they are. We are all different.
But you asked if anyone was able to keep their numbers
low even after eating ...... and I do.
My fasting bloods are usually somewhere between 5 and
7 which to you is, 90 and 124.
I was diagnosed in April 01 with a BS of [13]234, and
since October 01, my HBA1C has been 6.5% every time.
For breakfast, I usually have fresh fruit stirred into
about 5ozs plain yogurt with a spoonful of ground
almonds or hazelnuts. I'm allowed 5 portions of fruit
per day so that counts as one of them. Sometimes, if I
haven't any suitable fruit then I'll have a spoonful
of a good jam(jelly?) thats been sweetened with
nothing but fruit juice.
Occasionally, if I know I'm going to have a busy
morning, then I'll have tomatoes and mushrooms cooked
in a minute amount of olive oil and a couple of times
per week I'll put an egg in the mixture. To change
things a bit this morning, I had half an avocado pear.
(From what I've seen in your supermarkets, avocados
are frequently bigger than the size we have here!)
I take my tablets with breakfast and 2 hours
afterwards, my bloods will be around 7 = 126, maybe 8
= 144 but never more unless I've eaten something I
shouldn't.
After 18months without it, not only do I feel much
better (& I'm down to 145pounds) but I find that I
don't NEED to have bread or starch of any description
and the only time that my bloods spike up is when I
cheat .... which I do do, from time to time.
Only I'm not going to cheat with Bread. Its got to be
worth it, like a small piece of cake or a delicious
dessert!!
This month, on well-separated days, I've had one mince
pie and one of those minute Christmas puddings, equal
to about a tablespoonful. Over 2hrs after each, my
numbers were still at 165 and 180! and that was even
with an extra tablet.
One of my reasons for being so careful is because of
the other tablets I have to take. Each time that I
need to increase the steroids because I don't feel
well, the BS numbers rise.
My endo said that even small spikes cause damage so
I'm doing my best to avoid them.
He also said that because I don't make my pancreas
work hard, it may well last longer and delay the day
when I will need to have insulin .....
which to me, is just about the very best reason for
taking extra care.
I send you love and light and peace,
Cynthia.

I know this is not really what you are asking, but
> your questions brings to mind another question for
me. I have never had a fasting blood sugar level
> of 85 unless I am crashing. I have a fasting of
> about 150, then I take meds when I get up. I eat
breakfast,............ snipped.
