HEY, things can get better, I guess it just depends on the resources
and support available to you. Like, I've been pulling my hair for
the past ten years, my last pulling spree was in December and I am
just starting to notice how thin my hair is, and it falls out, too.
I think I pull too much and the scalp weakens and can't hold hair
well in the surrounding area? I quit therapy two years ago, even
though it helped. As I said, therapy works well with a strong
support network.
good luck! :)

I have to recommend this site most highly. I too recently saw a
couple of television shows for the company listed at:
http://www.wrldofproduct.com I checked out their website and
decided to join. Using this absolutely incredible program I have
been able to slash our families groceries bills by about 70% each
week! In fact just this past weekend I purchased $ 197.94 worth of
groceries and only had to pay $ 13.22! This thing allows you to get
just about everything in the supermarket for pennies on the dollar.
I feel sorry for the supermarkets with programs like these. The
company also has a super restaurant program that earns you free
restaurant gift certificates when you try free samples and trials of
products. I have always looked for a site that offers freebies,
samples and savings all in one place. Finding one that actually works
is more than I could have ever expected!

I'm feeling like crap because I did it again last night, when I'm
done I get incredibly bitchy and take it out on my kids. Having my
brain so messed up lately is depressing.  I haven't slept thru the
night for ages, I'm obesessing about trich (now that I know the name

never seeking help for me.  I don't even know if I really want to

Hey Brad,

I normally don't email people back I just read the emails and hope that someone can come up with something I haven't tried.  Yes I know what your talking about I do the same thing with my hair and yes sometimes my pubes.  I used to think there was something seriously wrong with me mentally and I'm sure there is to some degree but I now know I'm not "crazy", and I'm not alone!  The rubber thing is the hair follicle.  I'm not much for groups but if you'd like to chat more you can email me directly. i know what started me...  when i was about14 i noticed my upper lashes would catch my lower lashes and kinda flip up.   i got the idea to trim them all with scissors and after that they stuck me like i had a burr on my eyelid.....  what next?   i started to pull hoping to pull out the ones that were sticking me..  as i did i noticed that some had black roots(interesting!) so i pulled more not only to find ones sticking but to find these black roots...   i also would rub them on my upper lip (felt like wet rubber or something - a feeling i now find sorta soothing - sorta).    so here i am 20+ yrs later doing the same shit.. and only my upper lashes..never the lower.  and since then i have also pulled out my chin hairs(did that in hopes to divert the lash pulling)... and occasionally my pubes but only when it looks like a real thick hair that may have a big rubberlike root (anybody know what i'm talking about when i say a big rubberlike root?)...   and when do i pull?...  when i'm in deep thought or thinking about shit.   like when i'm reading or working on the computer i'll zone off and start pulling or start pulling and zone off.....  it seems like i have a tough time staying focused on one thing.   like i'll be doing something and zone off and start pulling and at the same time think of something else i need to be doing and go do that and zone off and then think of another and start that and zone off and all the time not really getting nothing done and what i do get done is usually something that is hobby and not work, if you know what i mean.    now can anybody relate to that?----    does anybody here have A.D.D. (i've never been diagnosed)?    is that how you feel?    like you cant focus on just one thing and get that one thing done.   or you have so much on your mind that you cant stop thinking about everything.. one thing right after another.?...  and even knowing what you need to do you still jack around and end up rushing to do everything at the last minute?    i'll stop now

fine on top. I havent pulled it out in 2 years. Ever since my menopause.

I bit my cheeks and licked my upper lip when I was young too, and the cheek
biting still continues, but a lot less. I also pulled out my eyelashes-upper
ones, and pubic hair. It is like this irresistable urge comes over you, and
you are like in a trance when you do these things. I myself believe they are
anxiety related. I was diagnosed with obcessive-compulsive disorder. I think
a lot of the problems I have had emotionally, started with the onset of
puberty, and eased after menopause.

I wonder if any of you, like me, have stopped the hair pulling to find that
if it is pulled from the root enough, it will not grow back?

When I talked in my first letter about embarrasing things, I was told to
not feel that way. Have any of you had another compulsion to eat the root
from your hair, and/or any secretion that our bodies make? I know that is
stomach turning, but I felt like a freak for years because I not only
picked, but put different things into my mouth without getting too graphic.

Thanks so much for listening, and sharing.
Irene

Hello Again,

Mine is a vivid memory also Kelly. I was 10-in the 5th. grade. I got the
chickenpox. I was in bed one night, and could feel the scabs on my head. I
began to pull hair through them. I literally after that, pulled hair from
the whole top of my head. I had to part my hair on the side all through high
school. When I was married and pregnant, people asked me if I was going
bald. After my divorce it got very bad. Now, at 51 my hair is very thin, and
fine on top. I havent pulled it out in 2 years. Ever since my menopause.

I bit my cheeks and licked my upper lip when I was young too, and the cheek

Hello, Julie!

I've been pulling since I was 24, and am now 30.  I've found that reducing or eliminating sugar and caffeine from my diet has lowered my pulling tendencies, although stress will override that and, to be honest, I don't have strong-enough will power to completely cut out sugar.  :)

I posted a message a couple of days ago about a big trich conference in Florida that's coming up.  There will be various experts there.  Are you considering going?

Hi everyone! The Trichotillomania Learning Center (TLC) is holding a conference in Florida in April. This is a chance for trich sufferers to meet with other sufferers and also with experts. To learn more, go to http://www.trich.org/conference.htm.

When I was younger, when I started pulling my hair out, my parents
took my to the dr. They did alot of tests on me, including alot of
blood tests. To find out why I was pulling. This was way before I
knew this had a name. Just so they could say it was my nerves.

Take care,
Lori

Hi,
You are right. Everyone does think it is easy to stop. But it's
not. Sometimes I don't even realize I am pulling my hair out.
