hi my name is norman carter and i am a 20+ year post tbier. the reason i'm introducing with a reply from this gentleman is because he sounds like he is my story. i was in a car-bicycle accident in '83; sustained left temporal damage to the brain. i wasn't given much chance to live through the night. i gues ihave some cognitive propblems still, but i do not look like i've benn in an accident. i was in a coma for 6 weeks; paralyzed on right side for another month; and walked out of the hospital, on my on, the third month. had ot and pt in the hospital, but didn't receive any after i left the hospital. i wore a traucheotomy, i think that is how to spell it, for almost 2 years. had a number of surgery's to try to remove it, but formed keyloids. when i got out of the hospital i went back to a public school, wrong thing to do especially at 11;. you see, when your eleven kids at that age when they see
someone that is "not normal", they tend to ridicule the person; or try to belittle them. i had a horrible school-life all through grammer to high school.
i'll tell you more about my life late, but right now i just want to say hi
norman

Hi my name is Sherry, and I am a caregiver to my son.He was hit by a truck in November 2002,and he sustained a brain injury. He also had a right frontal lobectomy, most of his problems is cognitive and learning and anger and everything else that come with the right frontal lobe.He has a titanium mesh implant in his skull. He was 11 at the time of the accident. He wasn't given much chance to live, but he beat the odds.Lucky for us the only other damage was to his right tibia area.He had 2 broken bones by his ankle. No ther injuries,he did end up in a coma for about 2 to 3 weeks, and did rehab for 6 weeks with out patient therapy for a year and a half.He was in 6th grade when it happened, and didn't return to School till his 8th grade. Thanks for inviting here,I am always wanting to learn more about TBI.Sincerely,Sherry
