Hi I'm Jen!

My husband Kurt suffered a MILD (HAH!) TBI in 2000. It was a slip and
fall that resulted in a myriad of internal injuries...the internal
injuries were so significant that the minor konk on his head was
overlooked.

He had a total of 19 surgeries for the abdominal damage....and the
TBI was missed. He also has an ABI from the meds that were given
during the surgeries...meds that are COUNTERINDICATED with TBI.

We didn't the "official" TBI diagnosis until November 12, 2005.

I am 40 years old...my birthday was in April. Kurt will be 51 in
October. We have a 9 year old son and a 6 year old daughter.

Kurt is on SSDI for the TBI. In addition to the Mild TBI, he has been
diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome and Organic Mood Disorder.
Additionally, he suffered Diffuse Axonal Injury and a Countra
Coup...so he has a gait problem, as well. Add to that pancreatic
damage from the fall and you can see I've got a real mess on my hands.

Living with him is an endless series of arguments. I am working had
to get him into an inpatient behavioral rehab, and he is fighting me
at every turn.

My marriage is over, my sex life is NIL, and my patience is exhausted.

BUT...the man I was married to was a nice guy, and because of that,
I'm not willing to walk away. I want to do what is best for him. And
at this point, that seems to be inpatient rehab and then perhaps a
group home.

He is very high-functioning. His post-accident IQ tested at 131...he
can drive, do his ADLs, and can carry on a conversation with a
stranger...he's a bit quirky, but unless you know what to look for,
you wouldn't know that he has a TBI.

I returned to full time work a year ago, believing with ALL of my
heart that Kurt was capable of doing what he was supposed to do. Last
Tuesday and Wednesday the raging went out of control, so I have taken
some Personal Leave and FMLA time to try to resolve things on the
home front.

I don't know what happened, but when he started screaming at me while
driving 65 MPH down a winding rural road, something in me snapped,
and the blinders came off...I realized that we can't go on this way
any longer.

I went home and put things in motion to get his care resolved. Found
out that he had not seen his physiatrist (physical medicine & rehab
doctor) in almost a year and that the supposed TBI expert
psychiatrist had NEVER created a treatment plan for him....So...I
have hired a new treatment team.

Yesterday, Kurt had 6 hours of neuropsych testing with an new
Clinical Neuropsychologist. They did a battery of tests, including
auditory testing (which he failed miserably).

I dont' think the Neuropsych fully believes me when I tell him we are
in crisis mode. I hope that when he reads the notes from previous
providers, he will "GET IT".....Two MDs have stated that Kurt could
pose a threat to himself and others....

So....Here I am, I have a ton of information about TBI, TBI recovery,
and typical TBI symptoms. but I'm clueless.

Jen
