Woodbine House is currently working on our new edition of our
bestseller "Children with Tourette Syndrome: A Parents' Guide." It
should be coming out in Spring 2006.
We have great new information from the experts (doctors, educators,
and parents) for this new edition. But we also need to update the
Parent Statements (quotes) at the end of each chapter.
While many are still perfectly appropriate (for example: "One of the
hardest things for siblings to learn is that they may have to ignore
behaviors from their brother or sister with TS that would be
considered inappropriate behavior if they did it.") But others have
become quite outdated since our first edition was published in 1992
(e.g. "The ADA looks great on paper. I guess we'll just have to wait
and see whether it really will help our kids.")
I'm hoping some parents out there will send me quotes we can use in
our new edition. What we're looking for is short statements (1-4
sentences, occasionally longer) that give good advice to other
parents, or that give helpful insight into parenting a child with
TS. All quotes are kept anonymous.
We're especially interested in parent comments related to:
• Treatments and medications
• Getting a diagnosis
• Your child's experience in school (both educational and
social)
• How your child is treated/accepted in the community
• How aware you think people are of Tourette syndrome today
We also need a few new quotes from individuals with TS—either adults
or children—about what it's like living with Tourette syndrome. We'd
be especially interested in hearing from adults about how things
have (or haven't) changed since they were kids.
