RE: [Toronto_Social_Phobia_Support] Help

Hi Aztec,
I personally am in my forties. However we do have young people attending as
well. Not sure if anyone else is 18, but we have other members who are students.
In any case, the issues can be very similar regardless of age. You could come by
one Saturday and check us out to see if you feel comfortable. You are welcome to
come.
Cheers,
Eileen

Helphi Crystal, Yes, many people with social anxiety do feel nervous even when
having a one-on-one conversation. I sometimes feel self-conscious even with
people I know well. One of the best treatments for SA is cognitive behavioural
therapy. If you dont know much about it, here is a link to the books page on our
web site: http://torontosocialphobia.tripod.com/id9.html Many of the books are
available at the public library. One of the best books is _Feeling good_ by
David Burns. There is also info on the internet:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_behavioural_therapyI also encourage you
to come to our meetings on Saturdays at 4pm. If you belong to the Yahoo group,
you should receive an email with the address. You can feel better!best

[Toronto_Social_Phobia_Support] HelpHello everyone, I'm quite new to this group,
and am releved to find an anxiety group that is so close to home. I have
suffered from anxiety ever since I could remember (21 years) and it does run on
my mothers side of the family, but I just leared all this only recently. I've
been to many many doctors, but they all shove some unknown pill in my face
before saying: "Take this, if it doesn't work I don't know what else to do for
you".I have taken the natural road to helping with my anxiety and work out and
eat healthy often. What my question is, is that is it normal for people
suffering from anxiety to not know how to make any friends or act around people?
I have no friends and feel most comforatable when I'm locked up in my room. I
can't even have conversations on the internet without people backing themselves
away from me. Is this normal for someone suffering from anxiety? Or is it just a
deeper rooted psychological problem...I mean, even when I'm with someone one on
one, the words just don't come out right and I get to thinking what that person
is really thinking of me.Please help, I'm close to tears here...Thanks, Crystal
