some of the stress management links

some of the stress management links

http://ub-counseling.buffalo.edu/stressmanagement.shtml This is a link to stress management suggestions, and an overview of how stress can affect people, from a university's counselling centre website. Some of the advice applies directly to students, but most of it is general information that can be used by anyone.

http://www.cmha.ca/english/coping_with_stress/18_tips.htm. This is a comprehensive "First Aid Kit" for dealing with stress and/or anxiety. It provides quite a few ideas for reducing and/or coping with stress. There are also links to other sites about coping with stress. I have read through much of the material on this site, and it appears to be a reputable site  (e.g. it doesn't appear to be selling/promoting anything) that could offer some helpful suggestions.

http://www.stammering.org/havingasay2.html  This is an article about a project the British Stammering Association was involved with. It mentions depression (but only briefly).  I've included it as it contains a few tips for self-advocay when speaking to health care professionals. It might be useful for anyone who is thinking of talking with their doctor or a counselor about depression/anxiety related to stuttering.

http://depression.about.com/cs/psychotherapy/a/cognitive.htm. This website discusses cognitive distortions. Basically, these are things we sometimes tell ourselves when we're upset, which are usually inaccurate, and which can add to feelings of depression. An example would be telling yourself "I can never do anything right". This site discusses how to turn negative/self defeating thoughts into more positive ones that will help us look at life in more positive ways. There is a fair bit of advertising on this site, but the information itself seems like good, sound, practical advice ( in my humble opinion).

Regards, Bhuwan
