I've posted an update on what's going on with me at:
http://bodymindspirit-amy.blogspot.com/
I'm still looking, searching, researching and learning a lot.
I'm very happy to have found a 33 year veteran in the Wellness Industry
who is helping me..he is Naturopathic Doctor and believes what i
do..that the body can and will heal itself if given the right foods and
if lifestyle changes are made...I have to stop doing what caused the
Hashimoto's in the first place. Lots to read and lots to learn and
lots to DO!
I am trying to post every day...
Be well everyone...
~Amy~
Hi Amy,
Well, I'm a (lacto) vegetarian and have an egroup on hashimoto's that
includes all sorts of alternative healing concepts, like going gluten
free, herbs and Ayurvedic medicine (is about rebalancing the body), as
well as vits/minerals/aminos, lowering antibody levels, etc Not sure
if its what you're looking for, but thats my two cents. ha

In early 2006 my wife Kath was looking for free
finance ebooks on the web. We were both disgruntled
about the pay and long dangerous hours in my
contracting job, so she decided to do something about
it. She came across an ebook from Jamie McIntyre at
21st Century Academy called "What I Didn't Learn at
School But Wish I Had". After reading the ebook Kath
was so impressed that she ordered the free DVD with
the same title.
When we both watched the DVD we were convinced that
this was the right system for us, so we ordered the
21st Century Homestudy Program. This was tough going,
because we were down to our last $500 after a
renovation on the trashed former drug baron's house
across the road. We thought that the renovation road
was the route to wealth and thats why we were doing
it. Previously, we had been in Network Marketing for
many years, but could not seem to breakthrough to the
levels we needed to have a decent lifestyle. When we
ordered the program, our one thought was, if this
doesnt work, its getting returned!

Rich people: fortunate, lucky, selfish, and arrogant?
Or highly educated, caring, brilliant individuals?
Becoming rich isnt hard, but it does require a bit of
time and knowledge. Having time to get rich, educating
oneself, and buying assets are the three key factors
in attaining untold wealth.
Rich people usually either have or make time to get
rich. Most people that now own huge mansions, have
wonderful riches, and drive the nicest cars usually
begin taking the road to riches in their spare time.
One plan, the most common, is to work at a low-risk,
steady job until one has enough money to invest in
something that will feed one for the rest of their
life. But before one can invest in anything, one first
has to educate oneself.

Hope no one minds that I post this, simply its hard for us vegetarians
who are hypo to find other vegetarians who are hypo, and need support,
ideas, specific to this. Many vegetarians are told they must eat meat
once diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Not true! I opened a group for
veggie hypo's, & on natural healing. Note we are (mellow) Krishna
devotees, all are ok with that. We'd be happy to share what we know &
visa versa. Lets all help each other. Anyway, we'll post info found to
work or help, the use of herbs, vits/minerals/amino's, oils, detoxing,
building, etc. Please, not for caretakers, the curious, etc but a
Support group for those actually diagnosed with "Autoimmune"
Hypothyroidism. Read the front page & see if we're a good fit for you. :)

Hello to all!
I am alive…lol! Still very sore and sitting and trying to read makes
me dizzy. Surgery only took two hours rather then three! I had a
very large goiter that was growing inwards compressing my vocal cords
and esophagus along with the 4 cm mass that was growing out over my
trachea. Other then the small nodule on my left lobe nothing came
back cancerous…it all came back Hashimoto's. Which means NO
Chemo!!! All my blood work cam back good, which means no problems
with my calcium levels. I had to be tested every three hours so I
look like a druggie. My hands and arms are so bruised from the Iv
and blood work. I was able to eat a back potato the night of surgery
and actually swallow it…it has been so long since I could do that!
It was AWESOME! Tuesday was a rough day for me…I could not keep any
pain meds down and I spent 12 hours throwing up…so just had surgery
on my throat, I am now throwing up and NO pain meds…thought I was
going to die…they had released me at 11am and they where ready to put
me back in the hospital at 6pm. I was able to take some IBprophine
and sleep for a few hours. I continued to be sick tell around 9pm…
but slept through the night and by Wednesday morning I felt a little
more myself. I am very slow moving and still have people helping me
through the day with day care kids today and tomorrow. My neck is
really stiff and I am very dizzy…each day I feel a little bit better
though! I have the stitches out on Monday and then need to take an
easy for the rest of that week. I am all ready on meds so I think I
am doing good with not crashing. Thank you to all of you for your
thoughts and prayers! I pray now I can live a normal life!!!
I too feel fine without my thyroid. As long as I take
my thyroid hormones.

Hi Jenn,
One thing I will say about having my thyroid removed, is I don't feel
any ill effects from it's absence. I take the hormone replacement - (I
take levoxyl) and I have my levels tested twice a year. It can take up
to six months to settle on the right dose, and occasionally the doc's
will change the dose according to the results of your labs. But apart
from the initial settling down period I have been fine ever since.
Take care,
Please let me know how you get on.

Hi Jennifer,
This is my third attempt at replying to you. I have not responded to
anyone in a while, and I guess my membership froze or something,
becasue I could not post my message to you until I re-registerd as a
new member!
Anyway, if you see three messages from me, you will know the reason
why :-)
I had a total thyroidectomy at the beginning of 2002.
I had two surgeries on my neck 3 weeks apart. My initial surgery was
because I had overactive parathyroid glad, and was scheduled for a
simple parathyroidectomy. Cancer was not even considered – at any
point, in my pre scans or any of my pre tests. When they removed
the parathyroid, they removed one lymph node and discovered the lymph
node was cancerous. So 3 weeks after my first surgery I was right
back there again having a total thyroidectomy. I had Papilliary
Thyroid Cancer and I was pretty scared. So I do know how you feel.
I just wanted to give you a few pointers on what your surgery and
after affects would be like. I hope you don't mind.
Be careful of what you eat for a couple of days before the surgery.
I was so worried about the whole procedure I became constipated, I
thought I would be OK if I took an herbal laxative. But
unfortunately I reacted badly to the anesthetic and I spent most of
the night after my surgery vomiting. I know this affect was caused
by the laxative because I was perfectly fine after my first surgery.
What the surgeon did not tell me, was that because they have to move
neck muscles out of the way to get to your thyroid your neck muscles
will be very sensitive to movement for
about a week. I was not warned about this, and because I was taking
strong painkillers I felt really good, so I started to drive 3 days
after my first surgery. That was a HUGE mistake, I suffered for 2
weeks after my first trip out in the car, with terrible neck pain.
The only thing that eased the pain in the end was heat pads which did
a great job of calming my neck muscles. I also had a small bone
shaped neck pillow, (purchased from CVS at the time) to help support
my neck while I slept. I found that incredibly
helpful. Try not to twist your neck – which is exactly what I did the
first time around.
So I was more or less feeling much, much better, then had to go and
do the same thing all over again. At least I had learned by my
earlier mistakes.
I did not twist my neck at all, I walked around the house like a
wooden toy. I definitely stayed away from driving for at least a
week, and I continued to use my neck support pillow and heat pads.
The heat pads were a blessing.
The surgery is fine, the recovery is OK too but I was lucky I had
help. My mother-in-law came to look after my son who was 4 at the
time. For the first 2 or 3 days I slept for most of the time because
I was prescribed Oxycodine. I tried not to depend too much on the
Oxycodine, and started using Tylanol after the third day.
I was also warned that the surgery could affect my voice only because
the thyroid is so closely nestled to the voice box. My voice was not
damaged in the slightest. Obviously your neck and site of surgery is
sore for a while, and my voice was raspy for a few days, after both
surgeries, more so after the second. I also found it difficult to
swallow for a day or so, but after a couple of days everything
settles down.
I was really curious to see the scar, but I was instructed not to
take the 'band-aid' off for at least 3-4 days. I tried to do as I
was told because I did not want to get an infection – but we all know
the story of Pandora's box, and I could not resist, so I had just a
little teeny peek. Funnily enough I did get a slight infection in
just that one spot where I `peeked'. I am now left with a tiny
dimple right at the end of my scar line. I was lucky, it could have
been much worse!
As for my scar – what scar? I have a perfectly seamless neck line -
my scar is more or less invisible to anyone not knowing I had the
surgery.
Hopefully, all this will help you have a wonderful, quick and hassle
free recovery.
Being diagnosed with any type of cancer is truly a frightening
experience, worrying that you may or may not have it, must be totally
excruciating for you, especially because of your family
circumstances.
I will be thinking of you, and will be more than happy to answer any
questions you may have.
Take care
Debbie

My Name is Jenn- I am 28 years old and will be having a total
Thyroidectomy in the next few weeks. I was told about three weeks ago
I could have Thyroid Cancer after a large mass was found on my
isthmus. This came two months after finding out my Dad had stage four
throat, larnxy and lung cancer. Through out the last three weeks I
have been to four different doctors including a Ear Nose and Throat
Specialist and a Endocrinologist. Making my total Doctor visits and
hospital visits to ten in the last two weeks. After several biopsies
and a Thyroid Scan I was told two days ago I would require a total
Thyroidectomy. I am extremely scared...but thyroid issues are not new
to me…I have been suffering from Hypothyroidism since I was seventeen
and also have Hashimoto's Thyroditis.

What is currency trading? How can you get rich and powerful from
currency trading? Who can do currency trading? Can you do currency
trading from any country of the world?
Until six years ago, when the United States Congress passed a law and

Look for the Source of Debt
You may be way over your head with unpaid bills and
debt payments you just cant catch up with. It might be
just the right time to look for the source of all the
trouble. Its like looking for the source of bleeding
and stopping it there. For some people it may be that
credit card and the unplanned monthly purchases. For
many, credit cards are a necessity, but if its causing
you a lot of trouble, either forgo it altogether or
keep it under lock and key for awhile.

Did you know that nearly 11 million of us have a hypo-active thyroid?
And that Hypothyroidism is linked to obesity and high cholesterol?
Hypothyroidism, also called under-active thyroid, is a condition in
which the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone for
optimal body function. This little gland has the job of regulating your
basal metabolism, or of converting heat (your calories) to energy.
To function at it's best, the thyroid gland requires iodine from sea
vegetables (like sea weeds) and some vegetables.Iodine is absolutely
essential for thyroid health. All sea vegetables are high in mineral
content, especially NORI.
The food value of Nori lies in its high protein content (25-35% of dry
weight), vitamins and mineral salts, especially iodine. Its vitamin C
content is about 1.5 times that of oranges and 75% of the protein and
carbohydrates are digestible by humans, which is very high for seaweeds.
The element of Nori which is one of the main ingredients which make
Tyhromine so special for thyroid health.

I was reading about someone taking 'Iodoral'
Do thyroidless people need the iodine?
I use iodineless salt. I figure we get enough of the reg. salt with
any process foods or when we eat out or from meat or chicken sources
already.
I thought even if we were under a nucleur attack us thyroidless people
woudl not need the iodine....
Thanks, Nancy
