Hi Jessica,

Sorry I know this is long :o)

You had asked about my symptoms, and I surely know what you mean
about thinking it was something else. It has been one wild
rollercoaster ride for the past three years. I had a hysterectomy
three years ago do too PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) which is
rarely done for this disorder. It is usually very treatable. In my
case nothing worked and I was in constant untolerable pain. After
the Hysterectomy is when my symptoms began to progressivly get
worse.I started with chronic muscle soreness and insomina. My doctor
assured me it was typical because I refused Hormone therapy after
six months of unsuccessful balancing on different hormone types.

Then I began to have terrible neck pain that I couldnt really
explain. My neck always feels tender and unflexible. Sometimes I
cant turn it to the left or right. That lead to migraines. So then I
was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia with migraine headaches. I was also
thought to be on my way to a diagnosis of lupus or possible MS.

Recently I have been battling a sudden onset of Uveitis AKA Iritis.
The problem here is meds only put it to bay and have not resolved
the issue. My Optometrist said to me...I sincerely believe you have
an autoimmune disorder. He wrote a letter to my doctor and we had
blood work done that revealed the true culpriate to all my symptoms.

I have also had sudden hair loss (usually resolves it self) dry
brittle nails and hair, tremors of the hands, IBS, muscle cramps,
sharp pains in my feet and hands, hot flashes and chills,Chronically
tired whether I have had a good nights rest or not and allot of sore
throats. I am on Atenolol (not sure about spelling) due to heart
rate and blood pressure issues.

When are you due to have the baby?

Angela

Hi Angel, I also have hyperthyroidism with the possibility of Graves. My
TSH was .006, T4 1.97 and T3 6.41. I need to schedule my full blood work up
about 10 things in all. Plus another ultrasound of my thyroid. I've had
one before, but have never had the iodine scan and can't right now because I
m pregnant. I don't seem to run into alot of people with hyper. What
symptoms do you have? Most of the ones I've had these past few years I
always attributed to something else, but found they are actual symptoms of
this. Such as hot flashes, night sweats, trembling hands at times, hair
loss, moodiness, and rapid bouts of weight loss. I am 6' tall and my
weight fluctuates from as low as 90 lbs up to about 130. I also have a very
fast heart rate and frequent palpations. The docs at this time feel the
anti-thyroid meds are too risky to the pregnancy, so I have not been on
anything yet. Was diagnosed over 2 years ago but with another pregnancy and
then breastfeeding, they didn't want me on the meds then either. So we'll
wait and see I guess. I go to a new endocrinologist in July, the last one
really ticked me off.

Hi all

I was just diagnosed yesterday with Hyperthyroidism with the possiblity
of Graves disease. My T3 total was 298 and my uptake T3 was 40 and my T4
was 2.2 and my Free T4 index was 4.1... Now what any of that means I
have no clue but doc says its high especially the T3.

I have my thyroid scan with uptake scheduled one week from day. They
told me it takes most of the day with a lot of time waiting. Yee haw
cant wait to wait. I dont know what to expect with the scan. I know most
all of you have been through the scan. Any words of wisdom would be
greatly appreciated.

I was shoked but relieved that some one finally figured out why I felt
so bad 99% of the time. I have so many questions but will hold off till
I read more hear. I look forward to getting to know you all!!

Angel

I live in florida. May I ask you where you are relocating too? Maybe I
can make some doctor suggestions to ease your transition. I too moved
florida 13 years ago. The hardest part was finding a good doc.

I will tell you from experience that if you feel something is wrong keep
pushing for the docs to find out what. If you dont get answers find a
new doc. Have you been tested for celiacs? I have read some things about
it and they are trying to see if the two are connected in anyway. Cant
hurt to test for it :o)

Hi
I just found out in Feb. that I had an enlarged thyroid and
Hashimoto's disease.
I went to an endo, 1st they did a sonogram, then a nuclear uptake
and scan, and then a needle biopsy, to find that I had 3 nodules on my
right side (one of them being a cold nodule) and 1 nodule on my left.
After the needle biopsy they told me I had hypo and hyper thyroid
conditions, and that my biopsy came back suspicious.
So, therefore the only way to tell if it was cancerous was to remove
the right side of the thyroid. I had it removed on April 6th. At 1st
the surgeon believed that it looked benign, but the pathology came back
cancer.
The results show papillary and follicular cancers but very very
small, in fact just some cells were detected. So that's good, but now
I need to have the other side removed and do the radation pill.
In the meantime, after my surgery my doc told me that my vocal cord
was thin and not responsive, ....ok... well since then my voice is
still raspy and I have a very hard time breathing especially when I
talk... So now they can't do my next surgery until they see if the
cord gets better. I hope it's not paraylized. I guess there's a chance
of that. They told me the reason they have to monitor my vocal cord is
because it will really impair my breathing after the next surgery if
it's no up to par. So has anyone ever dealt with vocal cord
problems.. or any of these problems I would love to hear from some
seasoned thyroid pals.. thanks I hope I get some feedback
P.S. Not to mention the endo told me I have polycycstic ovarian
syndrome also. I guess all of these problems add up to why I haven't
been able to get pregnant... UGH!!! thanks for listening!

There was no question in my mind that I had found something that was
worth more than gold! First I read about this program by several
people that were incredibly excited about the savings that they
experienced. I then saw a 1 hour television show for it and I decided
to check them out with the Better Business Bureau who verified that
they have been in business for 24 years and noted their
excellent record over that time. The company that processes their
orders even offers a money back guarantee for their products. But the
deciding factor was two weeks ago when I witnessed a woman buy $375.97
worth of groceries and only paid $13.36. She told me that she is part
of this same program which is at http://programsofamerica.com I asked
her if she saves this much all the time and before she could answer,
the cashier answered for her, she's here every week with very similar
savings. That night I joined their sampler program and now I am
convinced that this site is actually worth more than gold! I wish I
knew about this 24 years ago when they started out!

Hi my name is Jessica and I am a 29 year old stay at home mom to 4 and am
expecting #5 in November. I was dx'd with hyperthyroidism in December 03
during my last pregnancy, had a echo and an ultrasound of the thyroid in
which they found several large nodules and goiter. I was not put on any
meds at the time because the doctor said that there was more risk to the
pregnancy with the meds than without. He also later told me that I would
need surgery, but that he wouldn't do it because then he loses a patient by
me not having to come back to him as often! Needless to say, I never went
back to him. I did see another endo after the delivery of my son to have my
levels checked again to make sure it wasn't gestational, and it wasn't.
However, my insurance ended and I wasn't able to go back for treatment.

I've always been a thin person, I am 6' tall and my average weight is around
120 but I go through spurts of rapid weight loss where i've even gotten down
to around 90. I had my levels tested last month and my TSH was .006, Free
T3 was 6.41, and free T4 was 1.97. The only thing that I have to really
compare these numbers too is the reference range that my labs say the levels
should be, which is .4 - 5.4 for the TSH, 2.57 - 4.43 for the free T3, and
62 - 1.7 for the free T4. I go in to see the endocrinologist on the 25th
of this month, in which I am assuming he will want another echo and u/s of
the thyroid. My heartbeat has been very fast lately.

Anyway, I would love to hear from other people that have hyperthyroidism and
learn about what kind of treatments you went through, what your numbers were
like.............has anyone been pregnant while having this condition and
been allowed treatment for it?

oh p.s., not sure what the cause of mine was but they say it wasn't Grave's
disease.

Jessica

since my grandmother and great grandmother both had it, I'm the only

I just can't wait till this goes away, whenever that may be. Have a

No, not too upsetting, it's exactly wht I expected and hoped to
hear. My endocrynologist isn't the least bit concerned and in my
opinion, it would be best (in this case) to assume the worst and get
it taken care of ASAP, just in case! Thanks for the info!

Hi,

My thyroid was removed in 2001 due to cancer too. I also had radiation
treatment. I was told by my doctors that I will be tested for the rest
of my life and should there be any indication of thyroid regrowth, the
doctor's told me that they would never be able to tell if the new
thyroid cells were cancerous or not, so they would treat it as
cancerous anyway and I would have to go for radiation therapy again.

I hope this news is not too upsetting for you.

Take Care

Deborah Ford

Hello! I have been on Synthyroid for 16 years and have always just not
felt up to par. My aunt (who also has thyroid problems of a different
sort) told me of a medication called Cytomel. It took going through 3
endocrynologists to finally get one of them to let me try it. I have
been on it for a little over 2 months now (it's way faster acting that
synthyroid) and I feel better than I have in years, I finally sweat, I
am not tired, my nails and hair both look better. I tell you, it has

I had my thyroid completely removed and killed with radiation in 1991
due to cancer. Now, apparenlty soem blood tests are suggesting that I
have regrowth of thyroid tissue. Does anyone know how common this may
be and the liklihood of it being able to grow back and not be
cancerous?

Hi everyone! Thank you for letting me join your group. I'm new at
this and need some advice.

A little history about myself & condition: I had been losing my hair
for a year and 1/2 - when I first went to the doc they did a TSH,
that was all, came back at 3.03 and they sent me on my way. After a
year and 1/2 of searching for the reason, I finally found a doc that
ran a bunch of tests and it came back that I have elevated thyroid
antibodies, diagnosing me as having Hashimoto's. Since the original
TSH had been done, it has gone from 3.03 to 4.1 to 4.71 to 4.96 to
6.11 and finally they decided to put me on meds. *whew...

OK, so my appointment is in a couple of weeks (he wants to do a scan
just because) and I want to be armed with the right information. From
what I've been reading, a T3/T4 combo seems to be the best thing. Any
suggestions?

Other than the hairloss, I really feel ok. I'm not overweight at all,
but I am depressed, but honestly (and I'm ashamed to admit this...) I
think it's because of the hair loss. I'm not a vain person, but when
you ahve a bald spot in the front of your head and you work with the
public and can't cover it up, it's kind of depressing!!!!! I do have
other symptoms when I really break it down (cold hands, tired all the
time, etc) but none that bother me as much as the hair thing.

Also, have any of you had the hairloss issue, and did it get better
when you went on the thyroid meds? I'm afraid that is my top concern.
If so, how long did it take?

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!!!!!!

Have you talked to your doctor about depression? I needed to take
anti-depressants. It's a no-brainer. Take them and feel better or continue
to feel very '-less' (hope-less, help-less, dream-less, ambition-less, etc).
Depression is frequently found along with thyroid disease.

Hi Im cindy, Im a single mom, in Illinois, and have been living with
undiagnosed hypothyroidism for a while. All your posts here sound
all too familiar. I had half my thyroid removed last april due to a
leasion that could not be properly discected during a biopsy. They
couldnt get enough tissue through the needle. Anyway, I have all the
symptoms (and then some) of thyroid disfunction, but since my
bloodwork showes acceptable ranges of thyroid hormone, they wont
treat me. I recently fired my general practitioner, because he wont
refer me to an endocronologist. But I have found a world of
information on a site called curezone. I started going to a
chiropractor and she is helping me treat all my ailments through
supplements. I went on bovine raw thyroid, and immediately had
relief from all my muscle pain. wierd huh. Im still very tired, but
its only been 3 days.
I have suffered from chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia for 15 years.
I have a daughter whos about to turn 8 and my husband left me for
another woman also. He couldnt stand me being sick all the time.
Whatever happened to for sickness and health.?? Whatever, men are
wimps. I've been divorced 5 years, and am about to file for
bankrupsy because i am too sick all the time to work, and i havent
apparently been able to jump through the right hoops yet to get
disability. Its very frustrating.
Also, for everyone here, if you don't know about mvp (mitral valve
prolapse) you should look it up. Its a heart valve problem. A high
percentage of MPV sufferers also have thyroid disorders and vice
versa. MVP caused anxiety type attacks, heart palpitations and
gerd, acid reflux and lots of other symptoms. So if you have any of
this you may want to see a cardiac specialist. I thought i had it
but it turned out to be stess related anxiety attacks. : O
I am tired to will sign off for now. Cindy

Hi Tee,

I have to agree with everything Gigi has written. Having a thyroid
problem is no picnic. Like Gigi I had a total thyroidectomy due to
Papiliary cancer too. I am taking levoxyl and am pretty settled
now. But that does not mean that I stay settled. I have bad bouts
every now and then. I have trouble sleeping sometimes. I also
suffer from dry skin, and extremely brittle dry hair. I try to
combat this with lots of lotions and conditioners, but alas, my days
of silky shine are long over!

I was so sorry to hear your marriage suffered as a result of your
thyroid condition. Our thyroid controls SO MUCH - it is a wonder
this condition is not more publicised so it can be understood
better. I had such a nasty temper for months, not realizing it was
not me but my thyroid. I turned into super nasty after my thyroid
was removed and I was waiting for my radiation therapy. But things
settled down once my meds took a hold of my system.

That is the trick really. Finding an understanding doctor, who
checks your blood levels regularly, and listens to you when you say
you are not feeling 'right'!

You have found a great supportive site here! I do not have yahoo
messenger, but I am on MSN messenger if you have that. I would be
happy to chat. You can find me by putting in my MSN email address
which is debbieford776@...

I am glad to also read that you have found a more understanding man
to be part of your life. Support and understanding are key issues
when you have a thyroid condition.

Take care

Debbie

Gigi, I was very happy when I received your post to my introduction
post on here. There was so much that you said that I have said
myself. I have heard people tell me when I tell them that I don't
feel good that they know exactly how I feel and I have to quickly
tell them NO.. if you don't have thyroid disease... you don't know
how I feel. I was always very healthy until my thyroid decided it
would literally turn my life upside down. My husband just decided
that he couldn't take my ups and downs anymore with my thyroid
problems so he left me with two boys ages 8 and 10 plus all the
bills. I hadn't worked in years because he always made the living
then I found it very hard to even hold down a job because I was
always getting sick. I am now engaged to a wonderful man who has
stood beside me and promised me that his goal in life is to make me
as happy as possible and to stick with me through all this. As you
know.. this disease can really bare hard on your emotional well
being but it has been some easier with him here with me. I want to
add you to my yahoo messenger list so we can catch each other online
and maybe chat some... I will send you an invitation... I will catch
you later... Love in Christ, Tee

Hi Everyone! My name is Teresa and I was diagnosed with thryroid
disease in 2001. I went to the doctor because I just hadn't been
feeling well. After he had ran every other test on me he thought
about a thryoid test after he found a large cysts on the right side
of my throat. 3 days later I was rushed into surgery to remove 3
cysts from the right side of my thyroid. One of them had began to
cut off my airway. The doctor had told me he had never seen a cysts
as large as one of mine was and it not be cancer but it wasn't. So,
they left the left side of my thyroid hoping it would take over and
do the work of both sides. About 2 months after my surgery I started
having problems with the left side of my thryoid not functioning
properly and it permantaly messed up my nervous system. Since then I
have also been told that my immune system may not be as good to
fight off infection as it did before. Then the next thing I knew I
found out that my thyroid wasn't producing enough hormones to make
my Pancreas function right either which sent me into a diabetic
state. Of course when my thryoid is not working right, it messes
EVERYTHING up in my body which has prevented me from holding down a
steady job. I have recently become a single mom of two boys. The
doctors finally started me on some synthroid to help out my thyroid.
But to say the least... this entire thyroid situation has really
messed up my life for the past 5 years. My husband got to the point
he couldn't cope with me being sick all the time so he left me for
another woman. I have been looking for someone to chat with on the
net about it because so far I am the only one in my family diagnosed
with it. If you would like to... add me to your yahoo messenger
list.. just let me know you are from this group. Of course my yahoo
screenname is braves_fan1974. Hope to hear from you soon.. Teresa
but my friends call me Tee!

Hello. I am new to the group. My family has a history of thyroid
problems. My mother and all her sisters are on thyroid medicines and
my cousin had thyroid cancer twice. I am assuming I will have thyroid
problems. As a preventative measure, I have been taking a natural
liquid supplement that has helped people reduce their thyroid meds or
go off all together...except my mother because she doesn't believe in
holistic healing. What can you do? I'm not trying to scam anyone
here, so if you want info about that you can email me at
heissler.jcr@. I am interested in learning more about thyroid
problems, early detection,
and the like. Thanks!

Carrie

Hi ME,

We are about the same, I had my thyroidectomy in Mar 2002, and I too
suffered from similar symptoms to you. The first thing I did after
my heart 'felt funny' too was to stop drinking caffiene - it was
amazing how quickly I felt better!

There appeared to be no help for my dry hair and skin either until I
started taking Evening Primrose Oil capsules daily. Somehow they
help produce the necessary oils to keep my skin from drying out too
much. (Which then of course helps with the hair!)

Since my thyroidectomy I have steadily put on several pounds a year.
I try to keep to a healthy diet, but the pizza and chocolate wins out
every now and then.

My biggest downfall is I do not excersise. I wish was a much fitter
person, who could jog a few miles a day and eat what I wanted, but I
am not. I just try to take the stairs when I can, and walk when I
can.

The doctor's can only do so much for us. If they see our TSH is
within acceptable perameters then they can not do anything else. It
is up to us to help ourselves.

How has the Cytomel helped? I tend to get extremely tired around
7:30pm - 8:00pm and don't have much energy anyway. Then sometimes
even though I am tired I will be awake for the whole night.

Go figure!! It's like a mad roundabout, and it doesn't matter in
which direction you go in, it still won't settle down.

I am wondering if Cytomel may help me.

Take care, good luck with your move.

Debbie
