Hello group,
My aunt was hospitalized last sunday with Myxedema Coma. She is in a
small hospital in a rural area but the doctor thinks he is able to
treat her there. The closest major hospital with a thyroid specialist
is UC Davis. She is on a ventillator, antibiotics, T3 and T4. She was
completely unresponsive upon admission to the hospital, but by the next
day she was opening her eyes and trying to talk. She was extubated 3
days later but then regressed and was in a coma. She is now becoming
more responsive again but is still very sick. I'm wondering if anyone
has had experience with this before? How long was the recovery? Do
you think a small hospital is capable of treating someone with this
disease? Any info or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
