I am feeling very happy today. I met with my endocrinologist. Several things.
One, it turns out I was right: she also feels that the test results being benign
(although with "sparse cells") probably DOES mean that it is very
likely that the nodule is indeed benign. She also feels that there being
multiple nodules decreases the probability of anything else.
She wants me: to have another ultrasound in February: the anniversary of the
first one when they were discovered.
If it's the same size, we'll do an ultrasound every year. If it is bigger, then
we have to talk: but even then, the next steop would
NOT be removal of my thyroid: but rather another fine needle aspiration biopsy.
and she seemed to feel that the odds are that
if it is bigger and the new biopsy was also benign, the issue would then be are
the nodules causing me problems?
I had noticed over the past 2 years that at times it was slightly more difficult
to swallow liquids:prior to the nodules discovery,
I had had: a barium swallow (negative), and recently an upper endoscopy (also
negative): so she feels that the nodules may be the reason:
so this mystery may be solved.
Glad though that we didn't just ignore it and that my regular doctor had me go
to see her: as it is better to check things out too much,
than to ignore them and then what if it had been problematic?
