I had my RAIU exam done: I am waiting for the results.
I also spoke prior to the exam with my primary care doctor who explained further
why she wanted the test
although the fine needle biopsy results were benign:
although the results were benign, and my thyroid blood work was normal,
she doesn't intuitively feel at ease unless this test is completed:
after consulting with an endocrinologist, she feels that: an area of concern is
the fact that the largest
nodule is a mixture of solid and cystic: and that that, as well as the fact that
one nodule is a lot larger
than the other three, which are just cysts, causes concern.
Should the test results return "cold", she is going to refer me to an
endocrinologist to discuss what
the next steps if any should be: my own (non-medical) opinion is: I then would
ask him/her to repeat
the fine needle aspiration: I don't imagine that the next step would be removal
of my thyroid.
In any case I am going ahead with my vacation booking plans for 2009: but adding
trip insurance
for $25 extra, which I would any because my mother is 85 and I could cancel the
trip if I needed
to be with her: but this way too if they do have to remove my thyroid, I could
also cancel the trip
and not lose the moeny for the ticket.
How I feel is : frustrated at not having the answers yet, but I'll cope with it:
it could be a lot worse.
