I can say that my general doctor was the one who saved
me, along with my surgeon and cancer doctor. I never
had an endocrinologist. For me I went in to the
doctor one day for a prescription and left. When I
got home I had a message to come in for an EKG. My
pulse was 140. The ekg was normal so my general
doctor said is was probably hyperthyroidism. The next
day blood work came back and that is what it was. My
doctor go upset because it would take over a month to
see my cancer doctor and my general doctor was not
happy. So he sent me to the surgeon. It only took a
few days before I saw him. He talked to us about my
options and he reviewed my lab results. My levels
were so high they could not give it a number. He had
an ultrasound done in my thyroid and it showed
nothing. We had decided to do surgery adn it was the
best choice. They found cancer during the first
surgery and 2 weeks after the first surgery and they
took more of my thyroid out because of the cancer. A
few months after my thyorid being removed I had mine
killed so it would not function. So now it is almost
2 yrs since it all began and am doing well on my
thyroid hormone. I go every 6 months for blood work
to make sure my levels are fine and if not they call
me and the pharmacy with a new prescription. It does
not take too long for me to get results. I don't even
have to call, they call me. I am lucky that I don't
have to see the cancer doctor anymore. My doctors
here monitor my thyroid levels. For me to see a
specialist is a pain because I need a referrel and
such, we have an HMO. I can always call if I need
results but they call me first.
I am active in knowing what is going on with my health
but it seems when it comes to results they get me
first before I have to call.
