Hello, my name is Jennifer. I am 22 years old, I am married and I
have a two year old daughter. I am currently undergoing testing to
see if I have thyroid cancer. The doctors have ruled out any other
thyroid diseases and I am feeling a little lonely. I think that I
need a place to vent since everyone around me doesn't know how I
feel. Anyway about eight months ago I got what seemed to be a
typical cold but the cough stayed around long after the cold went
away. A few weeks later I was putting on a shirt with a tight collar
and I felt a large lump on my lower neck. I didn't know what it was
and since I'm young I put it in the back of my mind. After a while
my husband made me a doctor's appointment. Anyway after the initial
blood tests they found that my thyroid is functioning normally. I
just had a thyroid ultrasound done but haven't heard from the doctor
yet. After we get those results back we will most likely have a
biopsy done. I know that the majority of thyroid cancers are very
treatable but cancer is still a scary word. I am young and I have a
daughter and a husband that depend on me. I still don't know if the
nodule is cancer but the journey to diagnosis is very long, lonely
and scary. Thank you to whomever has read this for letting me vent.
If anyone out there is going through what I am going through or can
give me some words of advice it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.
Jennifer
